Prevention / Recreation / Youth / Diversity / Education<br />

PRYDE bonds at-risk young people with the healthy lifestyle of<br />

the <strong>YMCA</strong>.<br />

PRYDE is a cornerstone to the <strong>Mission</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong>’s community<br />

programming. It has operated at the lower school level for over 15<br />

years helping elementary school children succeed in school and<br />

develop positive self images and healthy goals. It has expanded to<br />

Montgomery Middle School with huge success with the goal of con-<br />

tinuing the support provided by the lower school program.<br />

Last year some of the graduates of the Montgomery Middle School<br />

program participated in the <strong>YMCA</strong>’s California Youth and Government<br />

program for high school students traveling to Sacramento to run the<br />

state government for a day with life changing results. This year<br />

thanks to the Jack in the Box Foundation, additional programs will<br />

be available to high school students.<br />

PRYDE focuses on developing positive self-esteem, good character,<br />

team sportsmanship and gang and drug prevention.<br />

<strong>The</strong> PRYDE curriculum promotes pride in self, family, community and<br />

the future.
