<strong>Skatium</strong> <strong>Ice</strong> <strong>Arena</strong>Renovation 2011<strong>Skokie</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong> announces facelift for <strong>Skatium</strong>hen the <strong>Skatium</strong> <strong>Ice</strong> <strong>Arena</strong> opened in 1973, the two-rink facility put <strong>Skokie</strong> on the map for resident skaters, asWwell as for blade enthusiasts throughout Chicagoland.Over the years, <strong>Arena</strong> staff have taught tens of thousands to skate and have organized ice shows and exhibitionsfeaturing figure skating and hockey legends like Scott Hamilton, Sasha Cohen, Evan Lysacek, Stan Mikita, TonyEsposito and Dennis Savard. The <strong>Skatium</strong> hockey program is also home to first-rate instruction, leagues, camps andclinics.In 2005, the <strong>Skatium</strong> main rink was updated and continues to showcase some of America's finest programs and specialevents. In April 2011, in order that the quality of the structure matches the stellar programming currently offered withinits walls, the <strong>Skatium</strong> will briefly close its doors, reopening in September 2011 after a substantial renovation.Highlights of the $5 million renovation will include:• A state-of-the-art entryway and lobby with natural light pouring through a three-tier multilayered glass roof. Thenew lobby will be roomy, customer friendly and contemporary.• Modern locker rooms for the main rink, and two new locker rooms adjacent to the studio rink, built over a portion ofthe practice area of the Weber <strong>Park</strong> Golf Course.• A new café and a more convenient skate rental area for <strong>Skatium</strong> customers.


SpecialtyClassesSpecialty Classes for Basic 3 through GoldAll Specialty classes are for students ages 6-19, who are already registered in figure skating classes at the <strong>Skatium</strong>.Every class level has skills that are challenging and difficult to master in a 10-12 week program. Our Mini Clinicsare designed to give skaters the opportunity to fine tune some of the more challenging skills.
