20NEWSnewsAbuilding control system from PrivaBuilding Intelligence is helping aDutch football club to successfullymanage its energy consumption. AbeLenstra stadium is home to SCHeerenveen, which plays in theEredivisie, the Dutch Premier Division. The stadium has a seating capacity of26,000, plus houses a multifunctionalsports hall, swimming pool and squashcourts.Energy conservation is a major priority, as RinkHendriksma, Technical Manager for SportstadHeerenveen explains, “Care of the environment isthe priority here and it has driven the managementteam to create the most economical energy-savingsystem in the northern Netherlands. Compared toconventional energy installations we consume 45%less energy and cause 40% fewer CO2 emissions.”These savings have been achieved through a mix ofheat pump technology that utilizes underground heatand precise control of the building services via thePriva building control system. The stadium requires 5MW of heating and 5MW ofcooling, with the option of a further 2MW. Electricalconsumption averages 8 million kWh a year and gasEnergy-saving Premier FootballIDeaS launches CarParkPROIDeaS Revenue Optimization, the leading provider ofhospitality revenue management and optimizationsolutions, announces the launch of IDeaS CarParkPRO, theworld’s first automated Pricing and Revenue Optimizationsystem specifically designed for the parking industry.IDeaS CarParkPRO is completely innovative in that it enables dynamicpricing of available car parking products to maximise revenues by capturingthe demand at the right price and improving the utilisation of the availablecapacity. Additionally, this fully automated solution provides the tools toeffectively distribute the product pricing. Using the data from the system, further analysis can be done to identify new products and price points andestimate the resulting benefits.Recognising the need for a fast, easy and cost effective deployment method,IDeaS has made CarParkPRO available on-demand via a SaaS (software asa service) model. This deployment option means CarParkPRO can beimplemented with very little infrastructure, guaranteeing small upfront costsand a great deal of flexibility.Key Features & Benefits of IDeaS CarParkPRO• Auto-Learning - System reacts to changes in demand patterns andimproves recommendations• Graphical View of Business - View business at-a-glance for a day, week ormonth• Information Sharing & Override Options - Users can share new informationwith system or override system decisions if needed• Reports - System provides numerous reports to help make informeddecisions•Application Monitoring - IDeaSSupport monitors system’s healthand performance to identifyproblem areas and provideresolution in a timely manner•Phased Deployment - Choose thedeployment stage that is suitablefor current needs andpreparedness•Web-Based On-Demand Delivery- Minimise infrastructurerequirements; no new equipmentto purchase or maintain, no needto tap existing IT resourcesReader Reply No: 112020consumption is at 1,200 m3 a year, while waterconsumed during a football match is around 100 in3The site is continually evolving and the most recentgrowth has been in the creation of office space onthe north and west side of the complex. The initialoffice development covers an area of 30,000m2, buttotal capacity could see up 60,000m2 of commercialspace.Asked about the ease of using the Priva system,Rink Hendriksma replied, “At the front end of thecontrol system are Priva TC Vision and TCWebvision that provide a valuable insight to buildingservices plant and equipment operation and energyMK Electric istransforming lightoperation with theintroduction of a range ofinnovative ‘self powered’switches – called Echo – thatare entirely wireless andbattery-free!MK is the first major UK manufacturerto incorporate this patentedtechnology – so-called ‘enabled byEnOcean’, after the German companythat developed it – into switches; andthe new Echo range harvests tinyamounts of ambient energy towirelessly operate lighting at ranges ofup to 30 metres within buildings. The benefits of such technology –combined with MK Electric’s marketleadingwiring devices andaccessories – include almost instantswitch installation; total locationflexibility of light switches withinbuildings; and easy relocation, reinstallationand considerable costsavingswhen ‘churning’ office andother commercial spaces. The Echorange is also incredibly lowmaintenance thanks to the lack ofbatteries (that would need replacing)and lack of wiring in the wall.Furthermore, the switches aidcompliance with Building Regulationssuch as Part L by providing forlocalised control of lighting andintegration with lighting managementsystems and other networks coveringareas such as heating and airconditioning. They also help withconsumptions figures. The software is extremelyuser-friendly and I also like the fact that you candownload updates from the Internet and do not haveto install anything locally yourself. They are freelyprogrammable systems and the web version of PrivaTop Control is ideal. If required, my colleague and Ican monitor the installations from home; I have anUMTS card in my laptop so I can even check thingsout during the holidays if I wish.”Sportstad Heerenveen supplies heating, cooling, power and water to all the tenants. Some 150measuring points have been installed around thecomplex. The meter readings are taken monthly andthe data saved in the history database of the PrivaTop Control building control system. The system islinked to the Erbis energy monitoring software fromVan Beek lngenieurs, part of the Priva Group. Basedon the rates entered, Erbis calculates the energycosts for electricity (peak/off-peak), gas, water, cooling (peak/off-peak) and heat.As the Abe Lenstra Stadium clearly demonstrates,no matter how large the complex and how variableits use may be, with the right control system anenvironmentally friendly approach to sport andcommerce is achievable.Reader Reply No.: 112040MK Electric’s Echomakes light switching‘self-powered’meeting Part M requirements thanksto their immense flexibility whenpositioning them, combined with theireasy-to-operate wide rockers. The wireless, battery free Echo rangeis suitable for a wide range ofapplications and installationenvironments: from office new buildand refurbishment which may have aneed to re-arrange space periodically,or glass partitions – preventing theuse of wired devices – through toconservation or listed environmentswhere chasing wires is not possible. It also lends itself to domesticextensions or conservatories whereswitch location may be an issue or –again – where areas of glass feature;and, finally, one-off or ‘portable’locations such as park homes, caravans, exhibition stands andtemporary buildings where a fast, flexible solution is required.Reader Reply No: 112017
