(Chapter 4 detailsthe base installation and system requirements.)Installing Internet Information ServicesAlthough not required for WCF development or hosting, IIS is one of the hosting options, andsome of the book examples leverage IIS for hosting.You can install IIS on both Windows XP and Windows 2003 by selecting Start ➤ ControlPanel ➤ Add or Remove Programs. This opens the Add or Remove Programs dialog box.Once the Add or Remove Programs dialog box appears, click Add/Remove Windows Components.At this point, slight differences between Windows 2003 and Windows XP exist.Windows 2003On Windows 2003, you add or modify ASP.NET support by using the Application Server configurationcomponent. Once the Windows Component Wizard appears, select Application Serverin the list, and click the Details button on the lower right. This installation is IIS 6.0.This displays the Application Server Component dialog box. Ensure that the ASP.NETcheckbox is selected. If it’s not selected, you need to enable it and click through the wizard.You’ll need the installation media if you are doing this for the first time.
