The Bratislava self-governing<br />

region is a place with<br />

a glorious history, culture<br />

and education, a diversy<br />

countryside, a country<br />

producing excellent wines<br />

and cuisine inhabited by<br />

hospitable and generous<br />

people. It lies at the apex<br />

of the golden triangle<br />

which joins three European<br />

capitals – Vienna, Budapest<br />

and Bratislava, the capital of<br />

Slovakia. The Bratislava region<br />

is the smallest but the most<br />

developed and economically<br />

most productive region in<br />

Slovakia. It is the centre of<br />

commerce, banking and<br />

services and it houses the<br />

highest state bodies of the<br />

Slovak Republic. Outside<br />

Bratislava are threee distinct<br />

areas – the Malokarpatský<br />

region, Záhorie and the<br />

Danube lowlands.<br />

Bratislava city<br />

Bratislava is the metropolis<br />

of Slovakia. It is a prosperous<br />

venue close to two other<br />

capitals, Vienna and Budapest,<br />

which are also to be found on<br />

the Danube river. Bratislava<br />

off ers a varied and ample<br />

choice for tourists. In the<br />

21st century, it is again the<br />

crossroads of trade routes<br />

and the place where many<br />

foreign companies have<br />

chosen to locate, bringing<br />

with them a cosmopolitan<br />

atmosphere.<br />

Small Carpathians Region<br />

The small Carpathians wine<br />

region is the most extensive<br />

of the six wine regions in<br />

Slovakia. Is full of history<br />

and tradition.. Producers<br />

from the most important<br />

wine - growing region in<br />

Slovakia combine in the<br />

Small Carpathians Wine<br />

Route association. Wine from<br />

Modra is distinguished for its<br />

unique taste and bouquet,<br />

so also are the ceramics from<br />

here noted for their original<br />

ornamentation and color.<br />

Záhorie Region<br />

The Záhorská lowland is<br />

a paradise for fi shermen,<br />

mushroom-pickers, horseriding<br />

and the forests of the<br />

Small Carpathians for hunters.<br />

Today’s Záhorie is also home<br />

to an industrial-technological<br />

park and the car industry<br />

and this territory is restoring<br />

its natural economic and<br />

cultural bonds with Austria.<br />

In the Morava River valley<br />

you can fi nd a cycling route<br />

starting in Devin and moving<br />

up to Vysoká pri Morave and<br />

Záhorská Ves, where you can<br />

take a ferry to Austrian Angern.<br />

Danube Lowlands Region<br />

The Danube, Europe’s second<br />

longest river, dominates the<br />

Danube lowland. Cycloturists<br />

have at their disposal the<br />

most famous cyclopath in<br />

Europe – the international<br />

Danube route. The company<br />

Aquathermal Senec operates<br />

Aquapark Senec, a recreation<br />

and relaxation complex by the<br />

Sunny Lakes. The Esterházy<br />

manor house is one of the<br />

signifi cant historical sites in<br />

the village of Bernolákovo.<br />

In the historical park near<br />

the manor house is the fi rst<br />

18-hole golf course in Slovakia<br />

was opened in 1995.<br />
