Each quilt in the series focuses on a different aspect of the war, and with JOURNALS, ourattention turns to the children of the 1860s. As the war continued, more and more children were affected;some joined the army and fought as soldiers. Other children took on adult roles at home, farming theland or helping the family to survive while men were away at battle. Each month, the quilter receiveshistorical information, stories and quotes from the children who lived through the war.Like our previous <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>War</strong> BOM collections, JOURNALS is designed by Judie Rothermel, theoriginator of reproduction fabrics for quilters. Judie’s expert blending of patterns and colors gives theentire series its rich, authentic feeling, and a look that is often imitated, but never quite duplicated.Homestead Hearth incorporated flexibility in the finished designs to attract those who prefer tocomplete smaller quilt projects sooner, as well as more traditional BOM customers who enjoy the processof a year-long quilt project.During the first two months of each quarter, the customers will make the blocks. During thethird month of the quarter, the customer will decide whether to set the blocks aside toward creating thesingle queen-size bed quilt (84” x 102”) at year’s end, or to complete one of the four smaller quilts eachquarter. These range in size from 44” x 44” square to 51” x 60”. Yardage requirements and settingshave been designed so the shop can cut a single set of kits that will accommodate either choice. To helpassure accuracy and ease of assembly, Homestead Hearth is again utilizing Vivian Ritter’s pattern-writingexpertise to aid in the technical drafting of the patterns.● ●980 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10018 www.marcusfabrics.com
