C01 CARDIAC THERAPY<br />

C01A CARDIAC GLYCOSIDES<br />

This group comprises plain <strong>and</strong> combined preparations containing<br />

cardiac glycosides, incl. st<strong>and</strong>ardized herbal extracts. Cardiac<br />

glycosides in combination with substances in group C01D <strong>and</strong> C01E are<br />

classified in this group. Combinations with antihypertensives, beta<br />

blocking agents, calcium channel blockers <strong>and</strong> ACE inhibitors, see<br />

group C02, C07, C08 <strong>and</strong> C09 respectively.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong>s are based on the average maintenance dose <strong>for</strong> the<br />

treatment of cardiac failure. Exception: the <strong>DDD</strong> <strong>for</strong> deslanoside is<br />

<strong>for</strong> acute treatment.<br />

C01AA Digitalis glycosides<br />

Combinations with diuretics are classified here.<br />

C01AB Scilla glycosides<br />

C01AC Strophantus glycosides<br />

C01AX Other cardiac glycosides<br />

This group includes e.g. peruvoside convallaria glycosides.<br />

C01B ANTIARRHYTHMICS, CLASS I AND III<br />

This group comprises preparations used in the treatment of arrhythmias.<br />

The agents are listed according to the Vaughan Williams classifi-cation<br />

of antiarrhythmics. The division of class I antiarrhythmics may vary,<br />

depending on the literature used. The 3rd ed. of Avery's "Drug<br />

Treatment" (1987) <strong>and</strong> "Drugs" 31, 93 - 95, 1986 are used as a basis <strong>for</strong><br />

the <strong>ATC</strong> <strong>classification</strong>. Class II antiarrhythmics see C07 <strong>and</strong> class IV,<br />

see C08 (e.g. verapamil).<br />
