The <strong>DDD</strong>s are based on maintenance treatment of pernicious<br />

anemia. Different <strong>DDD</strong>s are assigned <strong>for</strong> oral <strong>and</strong> parenteral<br />

<strong>for</strong>mulations of cyanocobalamin due to great differences in bioavailability.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong> <strong>for</strong> mecobalamin is based on the treatment of peripheral<br />

neuropathies.<br />

B03BB Folic acid <strong>and</strong> derivatives<br />

Folic acid <strong>and</strong> derivatives in combination with other substances are<br />

classified in this group at separate 5th levels using the corresponding 50series,<br />

if folic acid deficiency is the main indication. Folinates, used as<br />

antidotes, are classified in V03A. Combinations with iron, see B03AD<br />

<strong>and</strong> B03AE.<br />

Combinations with vitamin B12 are classified in B03BA.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong> <strong>for</strong> oral folic acid is based on prophylactic use <strong>and</strong> the<br />

parenteral <strong>DDD</strong> is based on treatment.<br />

B03X OTHER ANTIANEMIC PREPARATIONS<br />

This group comprises antianemic preparations other than iron, vitamin<br />

B12 <strong>and</strong> folic acid.<br />

B03XA Other antianemic preparations<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong>s are based on treatment of renal anemia in patients<br />

maintained by hemodialysis.<br />
