The group is subdivided according to types of parasites.<br />

P01 ANTIPROTOZOALS<br />

P01A AGENTS AGAINST AMOEBIASIS AND OTHER PROTOZOAL<br />

DISEASES<br />

This group comprises drugs mainly used <strong>for</strong> amoeba infections <strong>and</strong> other<br />

protozoal diseases such as giardiasis <strong>and</strong> trichomoniasis.<br />

P01AA Hydroxyquinoline derivatives<br />

All combined preparations containing clioquinol are classified in this<br />

group. Formulations of chlorquinaldol <strong>and</strong> clioquinol <strong>for</strong><br />

dermatological use are classified in D08AH.<br />

No <strong>DDD</strong>s are established in this group.<br />

P01AB Nitroimidazole derivatives<br />

Nitroimidazole derivatives used <strong>for</strong> amoebiasis, trichomoniasis <strong>and</strong><br />

giardiasis are classified in this group. Formulations <strong>for</strong> vaginal<br />

administration are classified in G01AF. Parenteral <strong>for</strong>mulations mainly<br />

used <strong>for</strong> treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections are classified in<br />

J01XD. Fixed combination packages <strong>for</strong> eradication of Helicobacter<br />

pylori are classified in A02BD.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong>s are based on the treatment of amoebiasis, giardiasis <strong>and</strong><br />

trichomoniasis. The duration of the treatment periods is not taken<br />

into consideration.<br />

P01AC Dichloroacetamide derivatives<br />

This group comprises luminal amoebicides.
