The <strong>DDD</strong>s are based on systemic use in postmenopausal estrogen<br />

substitution therapy <strong>and</strong> in the treatment of premenstrual ailments.<br />

However, <strong>for</strong> some preparations <strong>for</strong> vaginal administration the<br />

<strong>DDD</strong>s are based on local treatment.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong>s <strong>for</strong> transdermal preparations are based on the amount of<br />

active ingredient delivered per 24 hours <strong>and</strong> the number of days<br />

each patch is used.<br />

G03CA Natural <strong>and</strong> semisynthetic estrogens, plain<br />

This group comprises preparations, which contain one or more natural<br />

or semisynthetic estrogen. Estradiol/polyestradiol are classified at the<br />

same 5th level. The same applies to estriol/polyestriol. Combinations<br />

of estradiol <strong>and</strong> estriol are classified in G03CA53.<br />

Estropipate is classified in G03CA07 - estrone.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong> <strong>for</strong> nasal administration of estradiol is based on daily<br />

treatment. No <strong>DDD</strong> <strong>for</strong> estradiol vaginal ring has been established.<br />

G03CB Synthetic estrogens, plain<br />

This group comprises preparations, which contain synthetic estrogens<br />

only.<br />
