McKown, deanand vice president <strong>of</strong> the JCESOM, congratulate first yearstudent and Class <strong>of</strong> 2011 president,Susanna A. Kapourales. Dr. Charlotte A. Rhee,Class <strong>of</strong> 1991, provided Ms. Kapourales White Coat.The 12th annual White Coat ceremonyhonoring the Class <strong>of</strong> 2011 was heldat the <strong>Joan</strong> C. <strong>Edwards</strong> Center for thePerforming Arts on August 10. Dr. David F.Hubbard, Class <strong>of</strong> 1989, pr<strong>of</strong>essor and chief<strong>of</strong> the section <strong>of</strong> orthopedic trauma surgeryat West Virginia University’s Department <strong>of</strong>Orthopedics, was the guest speaker. As in thepast, <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> graduates and friendspurchased white coats or book credits from theMarshall University books<strong>to</strong>re for each first-yearstudent. “The interest and response has beenso tremendous, I was able <strong>to</strong> give each student$100.00 in book credits” stated Linda S. Holmes,Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Developement and Alumni Affairs.The Marshall University <strong>Joan</strong> C. <strong>Edwards</strong><strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> Alumni Associationgratefully extends its appreciation for thegenerosity <strong>of</strong> the following alumni and friendswho purchased white coats and book credits forthe Class <strong>of</strong> 2011.Toumas present stethoscopes<strong>to</strong> Class <strong>of</strong> 2011Along with the white coats and book credits presented<strong>to</strong> the Class <strong>of</strong> 2011, long-time donors and loyalsupporters <strong>of</strong> the school <strong>of</strong> medicine, Drs. Joseph B.and Omayma T. Touma, purchased and presented LittmanCardiology III stethoscopes <strong>to</strong> every student at the WhiteCoat Ceremony. Dr. Joseph B. Touma said, “Omayma and Ireceived such positive feedback from the Class <strong>of</strong> 2010 whenwe presented them their stethoscopes, we felt this is somethingthat we wanted <strong>to</strong> do again and hope that some day each <strong>of</strong>them will in turn do something for an entering medicalstudent.”Dr. Joseph Touma presenting astethoscope at theWhite Coat Ceremony.
