Janneties du Sauchoy b. 1662
Jean du Sauchoy b. 1665 Notes: I am a descendant of Mark Hardin, son of
Martin and Madeleine (du Sauchoy) Hardewyn/Hardin. Mark Hardin was born
on Staten Island in 1681 and he died in Prince Wm Co., VA in 1735(I have a
copy of his will.) He married a woman named Mary, supposedly Hogue, but
there is much controversy over the identity of his wife. She is the daughter
of William Hoge and Barbara Hume and was born ca 1690. I do have quite a
bit of info on these families, but I would like to know the proper identity of
Mark Hardin's wife. ALSO, I need information on the spouse of the
Immigrant, Marcus du Sauchoy, Elizabeth Rossignol.
when he died and was buried in Greenbush, opposite of Albany in 1717.
Source of Information: Source: The Van Benthuysen Genealogy, by Alvin
Seaward Van Benthuysen and Edith M. McIntosh Hall, published in 1953 by
Immigrant's Children: Marten Pauluse Van Benthuysen who married Feitje
Gertrude Van Benthuysen who married first, .... Becker, second, James
Parker and third, Robert Teuwise Van Deusen
Maritie Van Benthuysen who married John Careny.
Notes: It is believed that Paulus Martense Van Benthuysen arrived in New
York or New Netherland in 1654, when we have our first record of him. It is
not known whether he settled in New Netherland or any other place before
his arrival in Albany, NY in 1654. He married Catherine, a daughter of Barent
Baltus Van Kleeck of Flatbush. Catherine was born in Holland about 1639
and came to America in 1654 with her father and his five other children. It is
believed that he immigrated from near Haarlem, Holland. Paulus was a
wheelwright and sashmaker during his early days in the colony. It is assumed
that he had some social status as he was invited to the funeral of Jeremiah
Van Rensselaer, Director of Rensselaerswyck Colony on 17 October 1674.
He later engaged in farming and may have been involved in the Albany real
estate field. He is shown in 1694 and 1695 as Inspector of Supplies for
Albany County. --------------------------------------------------
Immigrant's Children: Moses (Moyse)le Comte/de Graaf, bp. 13 Mar
Notes: Jean le Comte , a French Huguenot, arrived in New York with his wife
and one son, and in the company of relatives, Isaac See and Nicholas de
Vaux, reportedly on the same ship as Sir Edmond Andros, the first English
Governor of New York. Jean was soon taken with a fatal illness and died nine
months later. The name 'de Graaf' is the Dutch translation of the French 'le
Comte', both meaning "the Count". The family name was later anglicized to
DeGraff & DeGroff. His son, Moses (aka Moses le Count), (1) married Maria
le Blank, by whom he had Samuel, bp.12 May 1680, of whom there is no
further record. Early death of his wife prompted Moses to move to Ulster
2. Pieter Jansen, born about 1655 in New Amsterdam or Bushwick, married
Sara Colfs (or Kolfs or Culver), baptised 1 July 1663 as the daughter of
Jocobus colfs and Sara Hasenbroack who immigrated from Leyden 31
Church in Jamaica, New York.
Notes: It is conjectured that Jan Corneliszen De Zeeuw immigrated from
Zealand, therefore the name De Zeeuw. Provost speculates that the family
was not Dutch, hence the use within the first fifty years of the names De
Zeeuw, Loojse, Loyse, Loosjes, and finally Losey and Losee.
The family moved out of Bushwick to Jamaica, Oyster Bay, and New Jersey.
One branch migrated from Jamaica to Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York
and then to Saratoga county, New York. This branch had members volunteer
