METHYL AND PHENYLMETHYL DEACTIVATED TUBINGPERFORMANCECRITERIADeactivated tubing is an essentialingredient in maintaining the highestperformance of your chromatographicsystem. Being multi-functional,the quality of this tubing needs to beequal to that of our analytical column.Tubing used as retention gaps/guardcolumns need to achieve the highestpossible level of chemical inertnessand thermal stability, ensuring nointerference with the quantitative andqualitative processes of an analysis. In addition to the quality of the surfacedeactivation, deactivated tubing usedas retention gaps/guard columns needto fulfil certain other criteria:¥ Wettability by Solvent of Interest¥ Minimal Retention or Interaction ofSolute¥ No Retention of SolventGUARANTEEDPERFORMANCETo guarantee the quality of the methyland phenylmethyl deactivated surfacesin tubing used as retention gaps/guardcolumns (0.22mm, 0.32mm and0.53mm I.D.), SGE individually teststhe performance of each 25 metrelength from which all shorter(2 and 5 metre) lengths are prepared. This test report is included with eachcolumn providing a history of it'sperformance.Methyl and phenylmethyl deactivatedtubing of diameters 0.22mm-0.53mmI.D. are prepared by a uniqueprocedure enabling operatingtemperatures up to 400¡C.METHYL DEACTIVATED CAPILLARY TUBINGID OD Length Part No. Description(mm) (mm) (m)0.025 0.285 2 062442 2VSD/0250.050 0.230 2 062444 2VSD/0500.060 0.230 2 0662445 2VSD/0600.075 0.230 2 0624450 2VSD/0750.100 0.300 25 0624455 25VSD/1000.110 0.170 2 062446 2VSD/1100.150 0.230 2 0624460 2VSD/1500.150 0.23 5 0624461 5VSD/1500.150 0.325 2 0624465 2VSD/1500.170 0.300 5 062449 5VSD/1700.220 0.325 2 0624469 2VSMD/2200.220 0.325 5 062447 5VSMD/2200.220 0.325 25 0624474 25VSMD/2200.320 0.43 2 0624470 2VSMD/3200.320 0.43 5 0624471 5VSMD/3200.320 0.43 25 0624473 25VSMD/3200.530 0.68 2 0624479 2VSMD/5300.530 0.68 5 062448 5VSMD/5300.530 0.68 25 064034 25VSMD/530ECONOMICAL FIVE-PACKS- METHYL DEACTIVATED CAPILLARY TUBINGID OD Length Part No. Description(mm) (mm) (m)0.22 0.325 5 x 5 064050 FK-5VSMD/2200.32 0.43 5 x 5 064052 FK-5VSMD/3200.53 0.68 5 x 5 064054 FK-5VSMD/530TRANSFER LINESSGE also offers an extensive rangeof small internal diameter(0.025mm-0.17mm) methyldeactivated tubing ideal for use astransfer lines in GC/MS and multidetectorsystems.Manufactured to the highest standards, this tubing can be used to re-directeffluent flow to two or more detectorssystems without any sacrifice toresolution or absorption of compounds.Used in mass spectrometers, small I.D.deactivated tubing can simplify columnchange-over procedures. Restrictingthe flow into the mass spectrometer byusing short length of small I.D. tubingcan allow the analytical column to bechanged without turning the vacuumdown.Larger bore deactivated tubing(0.22mm-0.53mm) also provideschemically inert flow paths for sampleintroduction systems.¥ Purge & Trap Systems¥ Headspace Analysers¥ Multidemensional Systems

The additionalsurface polarity improves the wettingor wettability of the quartz surface forchlorinated and some aromaticsolvents, therefore ensuring good peakshapes are obtained for both early andlate eluting compounds.2 METRE 0.32MM I.D. CARBOWAX DEACTIVATEDSGE now offers a range of carbowaxdeactivated tubing suitable for use asguard columns for direct aqueousinjection. The surface deactivation iswater resistant and, therefore, suitablefor both vapourising and coolon-column injections of solutionscontaining substantial quantities ofwater.Column deterioration is oftenattributed to the introduction of nonvolatile("dirty") components, whereas,in reality, the loss in performance canbe caused by the interaction of waterwith the quartz surface.Samples from LC analyses can beanalysed by GC without any furtherpreparation. Reverse-phase HPLC isdifficult to interface directly withcapillary gas chromatography as nearlyall samples contain mixtures of waterwith either methanol, acetonitrile ortetrahyrofuran. The aggressive natureof water is such that only a fewinjections are needed to produce anactive guard column which can thenselectively absorb compounds from asample.Large aqueous injections are nowpossible when a short length ofcarbowax deactivated tubing is used, enabling the detection of compoundspresent in water at only low ppmlevels. The polar nature of thecarbowax tubing allowsnon-functionalised compounds liken-paraffins and simple aromaticsdissolved in aqueous solutions to beanalysed directly, without any furthersample preparation.CARBOWAX DEACTIVATED TUBINGGuard Column:Part No. 064204Phase:Column:Initial Temp.:Rate:Final Temp.:Carrier Gas:1 235VSCD/530BP20, 1.0µm film25m x 0.32mm I.D.90°C, 4 min8°C/min220°C, 5 minHe, 15 psiInjection Mode: Cool on-columnInjection Volume: 6µlSample Concentration: 2-6ppm each componentSolvent:60/40 water/methanolChromatogram of the 20th consecutive injection.4CARBOWAX DEACTIVATED CAPILLARY TUBING567891. m-Xylene2. p-Xylene3. o-Xylene4. COLUMN CONNECTIONSMINI UNIONS¥ Glass lined bore - GLTÔ¥ Low dead volumeThese unions are specifically designedfor connecting flexible silica columns andtubing. The glass lined bore ensures aninert connection and precise insidediameter.
