They’vebeen leaving a trailof exasperated dart players in theirwake, defending their cup over thepast couple months.We’d like to give the Flight’s NoviceCup team of Christina Schaller,Mary Richeson, Ann Counterman andCaron Aitken their due credit. Way togo girls, keep up the good work!And they would have their chanceto do just that, when the last challengingteam for the Novice Cup traveledjust a short distance from RingersFlight’s Novice Cup team of Mary, Christina, Erin, and Ann take down the competitionPub in Mountlake Terrace to Flightsin Everett last month. They broughttheir best low-rated players in BrettBrophy, Rosalyn Taylor, Karen Kringleand Doug O’Conner.The match started off with a bangwhen Flight’s cruised to a one-gamelead. However, the tide quickly turnedas Ringers stepped it up on the heels ofDoug and Rosalyn’s hot shooting. Theyhelped carry Ringers to a 5-1 lead, winningthe next five games in a row!Well, it was either fight or flight,so Flights chose to fight! That’s whenCaron caught fire and took out a 123 tomake it three in a row and get the matchback to within one game; 5-4 Ringers.Game 10 was a battle, but it wasBrett’s cool head that prevailed whenhe battled to take out the game andwin; 6-4 Ringers. Each team continuedto volley with Low Tons, but Flightstook the next two wins; 6-6 tie.Ringers quickly fired back ingame 13 to regain the lead, but atimely black bull from Mary would tieit back up at seven.Again, the teams traded gamesback and forth. Even with Low Tonscoming from Karen and Doug, thematch would still end up tied at 10with one game to go in a race to 11.The final game started out withBrett hitting the one and only HatTrick of the whole match. Too little,too late, both teams had numerousshots at winning the match, but itwould be Christina’s darts that woulddeliver the fatal blow. It's a muggy warm,wet, rainy night in Tacoma on thecorner of 56th and South Tacoma Way.Dawson’s throws up the garage doorbasically taking out the front wall andopening it up to the patio. We couldfeel the wind on the back of our neckand enjoy the elements as we sippeda cold beer, and chatted with friends.Dawson's is amazing in the dartbusiness. They've become known asTacoma's powerhouse in the dart biz.They have weekly shoots on Wednesdaysand Sundays, plus once a monthfor their $1000 payout shoot, they packthe place to the gills with incrediblepeople and amazing dart players.On Saturday, September 18, Geraldran the tournament and signedup 20 teams. Snoop and Dave, a.k.a.Pretty Boy were off in the cornerplaying money games, trash talkin’and throwin’ 20s around. He has the abilityand know-how to do just that.Situated in the cruck of a verypopular strip mall near Hwy 167, thePerformance Grill has been completelyremodeled, top to bottom, since Matt’sacquisition. It doesn't even look likethe same old bar anymore! The weather outside wastouch and go, off and on rain, sun. Agreat day to corral those darts, lassoyour game and drag ‘em inside. Spenda Saturday afternoon with friends fora low-rated dart shoot.These low-rated shoots are becomingquite the rage up at thePickled Onion, drawing anywherebetween 20 and 40 teams. It’s a hugeconcept right now and the players areresponding. A great way to reach outto the lower-rated players out there,the future of our sport.Craig and Virginia from Katie J'ssat quietly with their friend Vivian,waiting for the tournament to start.Vivian was on her way out to see thegrandkids until I roped her in to be mypartner for the day. We won a few andlost a few, but had a good day.Lee and Holly came out for thetournament. There were tons of prettygirls runnin’ around, the first of whichwas our faithful bartender Jen. Butshe's married to the owner-type guy.Michelle had the day off and decidedto play in the tourney. Usually she'sworkin’ the bar, taking care of thecustomers, so it was nice to have heron this side of the bar for once.Joelle, Heidi and Pam were happyas ever, and glad to be in the mix.Lynsey and Jarvo teamed up againstthe guys. Laci, Jen, Karen... the placewas not short on good looking ladies!All the boys were smiling. KevinWilson actually came out to run thetournament for Cal.Sean and his buddies all wentto the U-Dub game that day. Theypopped into the bar, all wearing theirpurple jerseys, after a gigantic loss toNebraska. But their spirits were high,and they were heading off to do somemore tailgating at home.Kevin was actually one teamshort of hitting the minimum teamcount. So Jen got on the phone withher husband for approval to add the$400 anyway. Answer came back inthe no form unfortunately. But afterthe entry fees were added to the potstarted by Pickled Onion, there was ahefty payout of $550.The 4 & Unders at the PickledOnion continues to draw a healthyplayer base from around the area.Jeff and Debbie predicted a win thatday, which may have been a selffulfillingprophecy, for they did go onto champion the tournament. Way togo guys!The day was a big party. Everyonewas lighthearted, and truly hada great time hanging out with otherdart players. Mackey wasgeared up to run amonster of a dartshoot, and Sporty’s was kicking in$500 to make it a viable afternoon.In standard Sporty’s fashion, the barwas already packed from end-to-end,with people engaged in various activities,including darts. Although theAdam Hansen Memorial Dart Roomat Sporty's was the busiest side of thebar. Players of all skill levels, crowdedaround the dartboards to enjoy somefriendly competition.It's always a good time at Sporty'swhen you run into old friends thatyou haven't seen forever, and it seemslike you always make a couple of newfriends. At least I do, but I’m a freaklike that!Dad and Ann were there. Annwas struggling with the loss of herbrother recently. Keep her in yourprayers. Sarah with an “H” waschillin’ out with ginormous holes infectingher designer jeans. She didn'tplayers, making sure that they hadeverything they need. She was spectacular.The service at Sporty's isalways spectacular. It was Saturday,so you know that 10-foot big-screen TVwas all jacked up with college footballall day long. Jimbo who knows moreabout college football, than anyoneought to, was diggin’ on the sports. Hehad a few friends along, like Ken anda couple other guys. Then Pam popsColette and Mackie at Sporty’s5Ted, Paul and Brad keep up the general morale among the players at Sporty’sseem to notice or care, course Juniorwas lovin’ every minute of it. Colettewas super cool and having a good time.Jack even played in the tourney too!That girl, what's her name…Kristen! She works for Sporty's andshe's also a dart player, but she ranaround takin’ care of all those dartup looking incredible! She’s happierthan a clam working up at the casino.Ted and Paul hung out with Brad,and the guys. Sporty's always packsa good punch when it comes to theirtournaments, drawing the players likea moth to a flame.Check out Sporty's next big $500added tournament on October 23, andstart gearing up now for their 11thAnnual Turkey Bowling, which iscoming up right around Thanksgiving.This is the biggest event of the year forSporty's and they really want to seeyou out there. It's a blast! You will haveso much fun, bring your buddies.Sporty's also shows all the awaySilvertip games.
