Health care spending also varies by factors such as age and sex. Average health<br />

care spending per person increases with age, although spending for children and for<br />

young adults (those aged 24 and younger) was roughly the same per person in 2009<br />

(Figure 6). Adults aged 65 and older have the highest health care spending, averaging<br />

$9,744 per person in 2009. Women are reported to have higher average spending<br />

than men ($4,635 vs. $3,559 respectively).<br />
