Tamaseni: (Tamasfalva). In this part there are sixvillages with <strong>Hungarian</strong> catholics: Thomasfalva, Dsidafalva,Domafalva Szab<strong>of</strong>alva, Lokosfalva, Czisk<strong>of</strong>alva.25. Adjudeni: (Dsidafalva), 163 inhabitants. 26.Rachiteni(Domafalva), 389 inhabitants.27. Saboani: (Szab<strong>of</strong>alva) the number <strong>of</strong> inhabitants inthis village is 300, with children.28. Licuseni: (Lokosfalva). Total number <strong>of</strong> theinhabitants is 40.29. Tetcani: (Steczk<strong>of</strong>alva). 160 inhabitants.30. Neamt: (Nemcz) this town was occupied by Saxons,they had five churches and now they have only one, built in1629, the number <strong>of</strong> catholics is 94. <strong>The</strong> parish and the teacher'shouse is ruined. <strong>The</strong>re are 400 schismatics, and there is afamous Bazilitan monastery.31.Gyula: (Gyula) it had a big church (50x20 feet), butnow only the basement remains, a Greek baron built a castlefrom the materials <strong>of</strong> the church.32. Baia: (Baja) In the past this town was inhabited bySaxons, 1000 houses, 6000 residents, but now there are 40houses and 256 catholics. <strong>The</strong>re's no other church in Moldavialike this, high towers in sculpted stone, it has five altars. Thischurch was built in 1410, in the honor <strong>of</strong> the Virgin Mariatogether with the Moldavian monastery, by the illustrious PrinceAlexandru Voda, whose pious wife, Margareta is buried underthe baptistry. Let her rest in eternity with the hope <strong>of</strong>resurrection. Amen.33. Suceava: (Sucsavia)... In the past over 8000Saxons dwelt here, <strong>Hungarian</strong>s and Italians, now they are 25 innumber forgot their mother tongue, speak Rumanian. <strong>The</strong>y hadtwo stone churches, one was restored in 1638. Many catholicsdied, their successors turned to the Greek schismatics, togetherwith their families. <strong>The</strong>se malicious happenings here and inother parts <strong>of</strong> Moldavia are coming from two sources. First,they haven't their own priests to teach them their Christianbelief, and second, they receive no punishment for their sinsand therefore the catholics turn away from their originalreligion, and became schismatics. Rumanians are 20,000 in
number and they have a metropolitan, Armenians amount to3000, have a bishop, who lives in the monastery.34. Siret: (Seredvasar) In the Rumanian Seredest, fromthe river Sered. On a hill there was a church and a miraculousspring. That's why lots <strong>of</strong> schismatic turned to Catholicism. <strong>The</strong>voivod, following the schismatic priests' advice, destroyed thechurch and the monastery, and the others from Moldavia, aswell. So only the church from Baia escaped. <strong>The</strong> catholicbelievers joined the schismatic, or they dispersed. Two bellsfrom the catholic church from Siret were transported to theschismatic Bishopric in Radauti, and three to a schismaticchurch from Siret.35. Harlau: (Herlo) It was occupied by <strong>Hungarian</strong>s, in500 houses, now in five houses live19 person. <strong>The</strong>y had astone church, 40 feet long and 16 wide, now only the walls andthe sacristy are intact. <strong>The</strong>re are three altars in the church. <strong>The</strong>parish and the teacher's house were pulled down, only thefoundation remaining. Some things from the church weretransferred to Cotnari and given into the custody, a cross, onwhich is written: alia parte crucis sunt annotatae reliquiae SanctiEmerici, Sancti Stephani, Sancti Ladislai, Sanctae Chatarinae =the relics <strong>of</strong> the Saints Emeric, Stefan (Hungary's king),Ladislau (Hungary's king), Catarina. <strong>The</strong> schismatics have twochurches <strong>of</strong> stone and two <strong>of</strong> wood. <strong>The</strong>y live in 200 houses, 12years ago it was inhabited by <strong>Hungarian</strong> catholics, when most<strong>of</strong> them died, the survivors joined the Rumanians.36. Cotnari. (Kuthnar) (the origin <strong>of</strong> the town originallywas named after the German Gutnar, who was sent by the<strong>Hungarian</strong> king). <strong>The</strong> inhabitants are Saxons, <strong>Hungarian</strong>s,Rumanians, but most <strong>of</strong> them <strong>Hungarian</strong>s, although the Saxonare richer and exercise authority over the <strong>Hungarian</strong>s. 276 arecatholics, fewer Rumanians. From two <strong>Hungarian</strong> neighboringvillages 53 men and 55 women came here for unction. For goodleadership <strong>of</strong> the town there was an institution here, which wascomposed <strong>of</strong> one <strong>Hungarian</strong> and two Saxons before, now onlyone and one. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Hungarian</strong>s own vineyards: Monte Szamar,Monte Kevely, Monte Ploska, Monte Hurubas37.
