Hungarians from Transylvania, Slavonia, Bosnia, and Moldaviasettled in the village. We see how mean fate was to thesepeople, as they always had to settle right on the borderline whichin the war constantly changed hands and as a result they werealway on the move. The people told me that Dr. Endre Czeizel, conductedgenetical examinations 10 years ago and found that inEgyházaskozár still 323 people of Csángó origins live there. The village has a choir founded in 1948. Together they singCsángó and Székely folksongs. They have been around thecountry and also in six foreign countries. Their next trip isgoing to be to Yugoslavia. I also spoke to a teacher who teachesmusic and literature in the primary school of Egyházaskozár andhe told me that he teaches his students the music, the dances, thehistory of the Csángós but finds that most pupils are notinterested. Many times it happens that the first grade teacher leavesthe class crying since all the students are Hungarian and theteacher cannnot do anything with them. I heard that it happenedmany times that one day before the elections of the mayor, theHungarian candidate withdrew because he was intimidated. That is the reason why not even one Hungarian mayor can befound in the villages. The young people try to leave and either go toCsikszereda or come to Hungary and study here but becausethey were not taught Hungarian many of them have a hard timein the Hungarian schools. There are many who drop out andbecome prostitutes. I heard of a girl who became a prostitutethen got AIDS and died soon. Also unfortunately many whofinish high schools and universities do not go back to Moldaviabut are only too willing to stay in Hungary. Among the
