discusses the emergency conditions and participates in outside entities and companies,such as the Fire Department, State Policy air patrol, and Carbocloro.LA6 The Specialized Occupational Safety and Health Engineering Service (SESMT),consisting of 96 professionals (14 Occupational Doctors, 20 Occupational SafetyEngineers, 1 Occupational Nurse, and 9 Occupational Assistant Nurses), advisesmanagement on occupational safety and health issues, together with the CIPAs and theEmergency Brigades, which represent 25 percent of our headcount.PR2 Willful misconduct verified by the Specialized Occupational Safety and HealthEngineering S, the Internal Accident Prevention Committee (CIPA), internal and externalaudits, and inspections of outsourced services are discussed with and contribute tothe safety of the employees and the population. The Occupational Safety and HealthManagement System is certified by the OHSAS 18001 standard since June 2006, andencompasses 100 locations within the services and digging and confined space workscarried out in public ways scope. In 2009, <strong>Sabesp</strong> was recertified, with the updatingof the 2007 version of the standard. We created a specific communication channel foroutside stakeholders, covering occupational safety and health issues, available on ourwebpage.Quality of Life - Viver Feliz (Live Happy)ProgramIn order to improve the quality of living of our employees, we created, together withthe SABESP Association, the Quality of Life Program - Live Happy, whose main objectiveis to encourage employees and their families to make behavior changes that have apositive influence on their lives, such as engaging in physical and cultural activities thatcontribute to their wellbeing. In 2009, we retained an expert consultant to conduct asurvey on our employees’ life style to identify the most critical issues - which will beaddressed in 2010. We expect to be able to make a diagnosis of the main needs anddesign actions and build indicators focused on obtaining more effective results on theadoption of healthy habits.Creativity AwardIn 2009, we granted the “1st SABESP Creativity Award” whose objective is toencourage generation of ideas, stimulating creativity and adopting actions thatgenerate results for the company. We recognized 64 good ideas of 55 Companyemployees from several units.The award was created in 2008 to encourage innovative ideas for the implementationof ideas with results and driving an organizational culture that values creative thinking,and recorded 730 projects running for awards ranging from R$1,000 to R$10,000.These ideas were assessed by a Technical Committee formed by internal and outsidemembers, and a Judging Committee, formed by professionals from Fundação daUnicamp (Funcamp), which considered the feasibility and originality of the projects infour categories: Improvement, New Products, Technology, and Work Environment.These and the other ideas were shared with the entire <strong>Sabesp</strong> community through theknowledge Management Program, which issued a document summarizing the prizedideas and their creators, and created a blog, a library of ideas, and a discussion forumon our intranet. The objective of all these divulging tools is to facilitate the disseminationand implementation of innovation at the companyLife Achievement AwardThe Life Achievement Award is an employee appreciation and recognition program,held since 1998, and is one of the most important events at the Company’s in the year.The 2009 event paid homage to 2,500 employees who completed 10, 15, 20, 25, 30and 35 years at <strong>Sabesp</strong>.136 Relatório de Sustentabilidade 2009 137
