Unemployment remains high, demandfor commercial construction continuesto fall and consumer spending istentative at best. Economists generally predictthe recession should end this year, andthis is good news. However, predictions forthe anticipated recovery are dominated bywords such as “slow” and “uneven”.Over the last 20 years, we all became accustomedto strong economic growth, lowbudget deficits, increasing governmentspending, a consistently rising stock marketand appreciating home prices. When the recoveryarrives, it will not be a return to thisunsustainable level of growth. The recoverywill likely lead us to a “new normal” whereeconomic growth is slower, federal deficitsand taxes are higher, spending by state andlocal governments is lower, and consumerspending is more conservative. This neweconomic reality will likely be with us longafter the recession ends and will also havea significant effect on how our customersoperate their businesses and make purchasingdecisions. The long-term success of our businessrests on the ability to deliver what customersneed, when and how they need it.As customer needs change, we must striveto understand those changes, and continuedelivering prompt, professional servicesthat exceed their expectations, all for a fairvalue. Every time we answer the phone, runa service call, conduct a sales meeting orcomplete an installation, or support someonewho does, we have an opportunity toserve that customer, generate revenue andstrengthen our reputation. We should take great pride in whatwe’ve accomplished as an organizationduring these uncertain economic times.Through an intense and balanced focus ondelivering great customer service, aggressivesales activities and prudent cost containmentunder the Power of 1% programwe continue to operate as a healthy Organization. There is an old cautionary saying inbusiness that “past performance is no guaranteeof future results.” As a service organization,we can only secure our future byrecognizing that our past success was onlypossible because many customers chose usto be their door company. It’s up to us togive them sufficient reasons to continue todo so.Thank you once again for your effortson behalf of our Organization.Rex NewcomerCEO • DHPace Company

Our focus this quarter is on two divisions whoare excelling in their commitment to safety.See what our two most successful generalmanagers have to say about implementing aprogram in their divisions.John Nale • AtlantaThe Atlanta Division safety council is comprisedof hand selected individuals that havea passion towards the safety of our employeesand a genuine interest in providing serviceto our customers in the safest mannerpossible. Since establishing this council at thebeginning of the year, the positive year-overyearimpact of this new format has beentremendous. The diversity of backgrounds, areas of responsibilities, and, most importantly, overallattitude towards the well being of our employeeswere the primary factors we looked forin asking the following employees to lead our“turnaround” in safety in 2009: Beth Kent,Mark Phillippe, Curtis Hope, Bill Munday, and Jimmy Camp. This group sees to itthat safety is not one person’s responsibility, but a responsibility that we all share. I’d liketo thank the council for their efforts so far thisyear and state my appreciation to all the AtlantaDivision employees for their commitmentto be a safer organization.Steve Mace • St. LouisYears ago there was a saying that was usedquite often. The saying was, “It takes a villageto raise a child.” In regards to safety, “It tookthe whole division to have a successful safetyprogram.” What I mean by this is we had tosell the program to each and every employeein a number of different ways. There was sometough love (suspensions, write-ups, etc.) for violationsof the safety program. There were rewards(baseball tickets, gift cards, etc.) foroutstanding safety performances. There wereawareness programs (orange shirt Fridays, orangebracelet Fridays, etc.).In addition, safety is a topic in just aboutevery manager’s and senior manager’s meetingwe hold each week. We do refresher training(Smith Systems, Tool Box Talks, etc.). Wealso monitor and document all safety training.I also monitor weather conditions and passthat on to all department managers whenthere are any type of severe storms whetherthey be in the warm or cold weather. It’s critical there be a facilitator to trackand document this training. We are fortunateto have Mary Lou Young, who is persistentin making sure all the department managersare timely in giving her the documentation. In a nutshell, the key is AWARENESS. If Idon’t make safety a priority and talk it upcontinually, it will fall by the wayside and beforgotten. As we approach 1,000 days without a losttime accident, I look back at all of the programsand activities that have been put inplace and realize it was well worth it becauseone of the worst things that can happen asGeneral Manager is to have one of your employeesget hurt when there was a strong possibilityit could have been prevented throughTRAINING and AWARENESS.Are Your BeneficiaryDesignations Current? When was the last time you checked your designations of beneficiary for your 401(k),company paid life insurance, or voluntary life insurance? Read the case below and youwill see why it is vital to keep your beneficiary designation current. In a recent case, “Kennedy vs. Plan Sponsors of DuPont Savings and Investment”,William Kennedy designated his wife, Liv, as the beneficiary. The twolater divorced and the divorce decree stated that Liv was divested of all herrights to any proceeds from William’s retirement or pension plans. However,William never changed his beneficiary on file. After William’s death, DuPontdisregarded the divorce decree and paid the proceeds to Liv in accordancewith the beneficiary designation. The Supreme Court upheld that a spouse’s waiver of his or her right topension benefits in a divorce decree did not invalidate the participant’s beneficiarydesignation made in accordance with the terms of the plan.Dean FineRetires!Dean Fine, a foreman with DHPace ConstructionServices, retired on Monday, August31, after 12 years with the company. Deancame to DHPace wanting to work more withhis tools and use his carpentry expertise, andhe proved to be an invaluable asset to ourteam. We will miss Dean, but wish him thebest of luck in the next phase of his life.Below are some things to remember when designating a beneficiary:• It is important to keep beneficiary designations up-to-date, especially if you havea major life event, like marriage, divorce, or death of a loved one.• If you are married, federal law dictates that your surviving spouse be the primarybeneficiary of your 401(k) plan, unless they sign a written waiver.• 401(k) assets are taxable upon distribution, unless rolled to an IRAPlease review your beneficiary designations on www.intersourcing.com under theBENEFITS tab. If you need to make a change, please print the appropriate beneficiaryform found under the LINKS tab and submit it to Human Resources.Dean plans to spend more time with his wife,Patti, his children and grandchildren, as wellas find time to hunt and fish. Thanks for your 12 years of service, Dean. You will be missed!PAGE 2 • 3rd Quarter 2009

The best time is in October or November, butgetting the vaccine later is better than not getting it. The young, elderly, and chronically ill are most at risk, but almost everyonecan benefit from the vaccine. Two things to remember: a)Flu shots don’t cause the flu, and b) getting a flu shot won’t protectyou against the common cold.• Avoid Close Contact with people who are sick. When you aresick, keep your distance from others to protect them from gettingsick, too.• Cover Your Mouth and Nose with a tissue when coughing orsneezing.• Wash Your Hands often, especially if you are around peoplewho may have a cold or the flu. Using soap and water for 10seconds or more is best for cleaning cold viruses off hands. Ifyou don’t have access to soap and water, consider carrying analcohol-based cleaner.• Avoid Touching Your Eyes, Nose, or Mouth. Germs areoften spread when a person touches something that is contaminatedwith germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, ormouth.• Use Tissues, then Toss Them. Don’t stuff them back in yourpocket.• Practice Other Good Health Habits. Get plenty of sleep, bephysically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.Annual Employee Appreciation DinnersThe Annual Employee Appreciation Dinners will be held in January and February 2010.
