The contract calls for <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> toundertake the construction, outfi tting, furnishing,equipping, testing and completion of the baredeckhull, with delivery scheduled by end 2010.The semi-submersible rig has already secured afi ve-year charter contract with Pemex, Mexico’snational oil company. This new rig will be built fora water depth rating of 10,000 feet and maximumdrilling depth of 30,000 feet. YARD NEWSRepair Success for Chevron Tanker DuoBeaming with pride – The Phoenix Voyager repair teams from <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> and Chevron Shipping.<strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> saw the successful sail-away of 309,996 dwt Phoenix Voyager and 156,835 dwt Orion Voyager – a tanker duo fromalliance partner Chevron Shipping Co. LLC – in mid March and late April 2009 respectively after their successful repairs.When the 333.00m x 58.04m x 31.25m PhoenixVoyager called at the yard in mid February, the<strong>Jurong</strong> team swung into action to ensure thatthe repairs proceeded smoothly and according tothe highest quality and safety standards. Majorhighlights of the job included the installation of anincinerator and an oily water separator, repairs tothe fore peak tank and water ballast tanks as wellas hull cleaning, blasting and painting.Phoenix Voyager takes off.Next to undergo an overhaul was the 274.50m x50.04m x 25.10m Orion Voyager, which arrivedat the yard in early March. Several modifi cationworks were performed on the bridge wing,mooring system and the port fuel oil tank. Toincrease the tanker’s performance, a fenderhandling davit, a mooring line tension monitoringsystem, a hose crane, a bilge oily water separatorand an incinerator were also installed onboard.The Orion Voyager teams rejoicing the repair success.Phoenix Voyager’s last appearance in theyard was in 2007 while the previous servicingconducted on Orion Voyager was in 2004.Orion Voyager embarking on her journey.Mar - Apr 200903


YARD NEWSNew Lease of Life for Northwest SwanThe Northwest Swan before her transformation.<strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> welcomed the NorthwestSwan, a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)carrier owned by Favoured CustomerContract (FCC) partner InternationalGas Transportation Company (IGTC)Limited, when she arrived at the yardfor maintenance and upgrading in lateMarch 2009.Looking graceful after her repair ‘make-over’.Operated by the yard’s alliance partner Chevron Shipping Co. <strong>Ltd</strong>, the 279.80m x 43.43m x 11.71m LNG carrier called at <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> as part of along-term evergreen Favoured Customer Contract inked between Sembcorp Marine and IGTC in December 2008.The maintenance line-up for Northwest Swan included a list of overhauling jobs for the vessel’s main engines, turbo generators, FD fans, pumps, cargoand relief valves, windlass, winch clutches and bow thruster. The yard also conducted global testing works on four cargo tanks and renewed the winchbrake linings and helicopter safety nets.Stringent safety and quality standards were adhered to during the repairs and the excellent teamwork and co-operation by everyone on the team resultedin the vessel’s on-schedule sail-away in late April.Green Cove Makes Repair Pit-stopGreen Cove, a 16,178 dwt Pure Car / TruckCarrier (PCTC) from <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong>’sregular customer LMS Ship Managementof USA, made a ‘pit-stop’ at the yard formaintenance and repairs in the month ofMarch 2009.During the stopover, the <strong>Jurong</strong> team performedblasting and painting works on the shipside andthe ramp doors of the 179.00m x 32.29m x14.88m vessel. The main compressors alongwith the ramp doors’ hydraulic cylinders wereoverhauled to ensure optimum performance andcontinued serviceability before her departure inlate March.In addition to Green Cove, the <strong>Jurong</strong> teamhad previously provided maintenance for theowner’s affi liated car carriers namely GreenDale, Green Lake and Green Ridge.Revitalised and ready after her repairs.04Mar - Apr 2009

SCM : AROUND FEATURE THE YARDSSembawang <strong>Shipyard</strong> Bags BG LNG Services FCCSembawang <strong>Shipyard</strong>, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine, has secured a Favoured Customer Contract(FCC) from BG LNG Services LLC (BG LNG Services) of USA to provide ship repair, refurbishment, upgrading andrelated <strong>mar</strong>ine services for its fleet of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers.The contract, signed in Houston, USA,by Mr Allyn Risley, President of BG LNGServices, and Ms Wong Lee-Lin, ExecutiveDirector of Sembawang <strong>Shipyard</strong>, commitsthe repairs, refurbishment and upgradingof its fl eet of LNG carriers trading in theFar East to Sembawang <strong>Shipyard</strong>. SCM : NEWSLeadership Renewal in Sembcorp MarineIn line with the Sembcorp Marine Group’s succession plan and leadershiprenewal process, Mr Tan Kwi Kin, aged 70, will relinquish his role as GroupPresident & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) upon his retirement with effect fromMay 1, 2009.Mr Tan will be appointed Senior Advisor in Sembcorp Marine and remains as a director of theSembcorp Marine Board. As a Director and Senior Advisor, he will continue to provide hisinvaluable advice on various matters including strategic matters to the Board and Managementof the Group.With effect from May 1, 2009, Mr Wong Weng Sun, aged 47 and currently the President andChief Operating Offi cer (COO), will be appointed the President and CEO of Sembcorp Marineand a director of the Sembcorp Marine Board. Mr Wong joined the shipyard as an engineer in1988 and served as Deputy President from January 2002 to June 2004.The Board would like to record their heartfelt appreciation to Mr Tan for his signifi cantcontributions to the success of Sembcorp Marine. HAPPENINGSSafeguarding Against Influenza A (H1N1)When news of the Influenza A (H1N1)outbreak surfaced in mid April 2009,Sembcorp Marine and its yards respondedswiftly by setting in motion stringentprecautionary measures and rallyingthe support of employees, customers,subcontractors and stakeholders in theireffective implementation.These preventive measures, already in place since2003, are aimed at keeping the workplace safefrom pandemics such as the H1N1. The initiativescurrently in force include:Daily temperature checks• All personnel, including employees, customers,crew and subcontractors, have to check theirtemperatures and fi ll in their temperature cardsdaily before coming to work.• Those with temperatures of > 37.5°C are toconsult a doctor immediately and not report towork. If at work, they are to report to the yards’medical centres.• Individuals with fl u-like symptoms are to closelymonitor their temperature and condition.• Contract tracing will be implemented forsuspected H1N1 fever cases.Temperature taking for visitors upon entry.Working with customers to ensure a safe workplace for all.Access Control• Strict entry checks are in place for people andships entering the yards• All visitors must fi ll up health declaration formsand undergo temperature checks prior to entry.Control of overseas travel and leave• Controls are in place to restrict overseastravel and leave, especially to H1N1 affectedcountries*.• Customers have been strongly encouraged toinstitute plans to limit such travel to those onurgent basis.• Individuals who have travelled to such countriesare to be quarantined for 7 days and to report tothe yards’ medical centres on their return.Communication & education• Briefi ngs were held and information handbooksdisseminated to stakeholders on H1N1precautionary measures and responseprocedures.• Communication has been enhanced via dailynews bulletins and public address messages onrelated H1N1 developments and updates.H1N1 briefing for employees and subcontractorpartners.• Personnel are advised to watch their personalhygiene and to lead a healthy lifestyle to buildup their immunity.Environmental management• Environmental management measures havebeen stepped up, including daily disinfectionof all common areas, including offi ces, meetingrooms and canteens, as well as companytransport.The successful prevention of H1N1 requires the collective vigilance and concerted efforts of all stakeholders.Let’s all do our part to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for everyone!Simple Prevention Tips• Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly withsoap and water for 20 seconds each time.Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germsspread this way.• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue whencoughing or sneezing.• Dispose used tissues properly in the litter binafter use.• Avoid crowded places if you are unwell and weara surgical mask to cover your nose and mouth.• Stay home when you are sick.
