Basic Fishing SetupsProper rigging of your hooks, weights and baits is a fundamental part of your fishing success. The following methods have proven to work well fortrout, catfish and bluegill in lakes and ponds. Use lighter line and smaller hooks and weights for trout and bluegill. Some baits such as worms are effectivefor all fish, however most other baits are species specific.SwivelEgg Sinker¼– ½ oz.8-18 inchesFigure 1: eggsinker setupCatfishLine: 8 to 12 lb. testhook Size: 2 to 6 baitholderBait: Worms, stink baits, hotdogs, liver, shrimpCatfish are best caught using a hook and sinkersetup (fig. 1 and fig. 2). When fishing for trout, use the egg sinker set-up with 2-or 4-pound line tied below the swivel to the hook. Fishing with a bobber (fig. 3)can work well for trout when using non-floating baits such as worms or salmoneggs. In addition to the baits suggested for trout, small in-line spinners such asPanther Martins or Mepps, or spoons such as KastMasters or Super Dupers, canbe effective.sunfish/BluegillLine: 2 to 6 lb. testhook Size: 8 to 12 baitholderBait: Worms, mealworms, cornSunfish or bluegill can be caught using the bobber setup (fig. 3).
