Designated Community Fishing Program WatersArizona’s CommunityFishing Program“If people can’t get to the fish, we’ll bring fish tothe people.”There are now 36 park lakes and ponds participatingin the program, a partnership betweenthe Arizona Game and Fish Department and 15cities across the state. To ensure anglers have agood chance of catching fish, plenty of ready-tocatchfish are stocked during the fall, winter andspring seasons.New name and lookWith so many changes taking place in 2014including the addition of 15 more waters andsimplification of the fishing and hunting licensestructure, we seized the opportunity to changethe program’s name from Urban Fishing toCommunity Fishing Program. The expansionto new locations will bring fun and convenientfishing experiences into neighborhoods andcommunities across Arizona.More Waters, More Fun!The 15 new waters include:• 2 newly built lakes: pioneer Lake in Peoria,and Copper sky Lake in Maricopa.• 8 existing park ponds of 2-6 acres in thegreater Phoenix area. Bonsall pond inGlendale, Granada ponds and roadrunnerpond in Phoenix, eldorado pond andmcKellips pond in Scottsdale, discoveryponds and mcQueen pond in Gilbert, andpacana pond in Maricopa.• tempe town Lake, which has always beengreat to fish, but in the past has not beenpart of the urban/community program.• 4 Yuma area waters: West Wetlands pond,Council Avenue pond (Somerton), FortunaLake and redondo Lake.License RequirementsAll 36 lakes and ponds in this section are speciallydesignated Community Fishing Programwaters that require anglers 10 years of age orolder to be licensed. Valid licenses include:• Community Fishing• General Fishing• Youth Combination Hunt and Fish (ages 10-17)• Combination Hunt and Fish (18 and over)• Or Pioneer, Blind, Disabled Veteran, Shortterm(one day) and youth group licensesCommunity Lakes and PondsEach of the 36 waters in the Community FishingProgram is designated as either a Lake or a Pondand has been named accordingly. CommunityLakes are larger bodies of water, generally over3 acres, and have higher daily bag limits (seetable below). Community Ponds have daily baglimits that are only half that of Lakes.
