Weco ® Plug Valvespremium,Choice of operators, actuatorsGear operators, pneumaticactuators and hydraulicactuators are available.Body erosion virtuallyeliminatedFluid is forced between theplug/seal interface, limitingwear to replaceable parts.Ultimate sealability, noadjustments requiredFloating plug improvessealability and reduces plugwear.Low torque operation atall pressuresCylindrical plug fits betweenseal and side segments, reducing plug drag on thevalve body.Weco ULT and DR plug valves are premium, quarter-turn valves designed for a widerange of standard and sour gas drilling, production, and well-servicing applications. These rugged valves are offered in single and dual-body designs in pressures to 20,000psi. They range in size from 1 to 4-inches and come with threaded, Weco wing union, flanged, and clamp hub ends. Consult factory for configurations. Like all pressurecontaining products, Weco plug valves require special handling (see inside back cover for Warningsand Cautions).FMC Technologies, Inc.6

quarter-turn valvesULT Plug ValvesThe benefits of FMC’s ULT plug valves are a direct result of its unique designfeatures. Combined, these features have redefined the standards for plug valveoperating principles and performance.Ultimate SealabilityThe key to the ULT plug valve’s unprecedented sealintegrity is its proprietary floating plug and dual-sealdesign. When the valve is closed, the dual segmentseal provides a redundant seal on the downstream sideof the valve. In 3-inch and larger sizes, the ULT plugvalve also employs a two-piece plug and stem design. When these valves are closed, line fluid pressure in thebody is equalized around the plug resulting in ultimatesealing and low operating torque.Ultimate Valve Body LifeIn addition to improved bidirectional sealperformance, the ULT plug valve dramatically extendsservice life. When a traditional plug valve is closed,high-pressure fluids are forced between the upstreambody and seal segment interface. This flow path canerode the valve body, potentially ruining the valve. When a ULT plug valve is closed, the only availableflow path is between the seal segment and pluginterface. This flow path eliminates body erosion andlimits any potential wear to replaceable components.Top View - Valve openOPERATING PRINCIPALLine fluidTop View - Valve closedUltimate Seal LifeIn addition to improved valve body life, two otherfrequent operating problems associated with highpressureplug valves - both of which cause prematuredamage to seals and increased valve operating torque- are solved by the ULT plug valve. Traditional plugvalve designs can sometimes seal on the upstreamside of the valve, resulting in extrusion damage to theupstream segment seal. Traditional plug valves canalso trap body pressure after line pressure is removedfrom the valve, resulting in extrusion damage to bothupstream and downstream segment seals. The dualsealdesign of the ULT plug valve, by forcing flowbetween the plug and segment interface, eliminatesboth of these problems.Ultimate Life Cycle Cost SavingsSuperior sealability, increased life of valve bodyand elimination of premature seal damage result insignificant savings in life cycle costs of the ULT plugvalve over traditional plug valves. Qualification testshave proven the the ULT plug valve extends servicelife 3 to 5 times over other plug valves while reducingmaintenance costs. On 1 inch size, ULT parts kits maybe used in existing DR plug valve bodies to extend thelife of these valves.Floating plugProprietaryseal designFloating plugProprietaryseal designFMC Technologies, Inc.7

Choke Throttle ValveFlowline Choke ValveRecommended serviceHigh pressure pumping applications where high velocityerosive fluid would normally need to be throttled througha partially open plug valve. Bleeding of frac lines andcontrolling cement flow are two such situations.Throttle ControlA multi-turn nut is used tocontrol the vertical travel ofthe throttle stem.Throttle StemThe stem travels inside thecage and controls the amountof flow through the cage’sports.Shut-off ControlA quarter-turn control isoperated with a standard plugvalve bar to rotate the plugbetween the full open and fullclosed positions.PlugThe plug provides full shutoff capability. The plug is protected from throttling bybeing operated when the throttle stem isfully choked.Ported CageFluid flows radially leadingto energy dissipation in thecenter of the ported chokecage. The best attributes of a ported cage choke and a plug valve are combined in FMC’sflowline choke valve. The choke portion of the valve is used to throttle high velocityflows while the plug valve portion of the valve remains full open. The plug valve portionis protected by the choke from high velocity erosive flow. Because of the combineduse of the two halves of the valve, high velocity erosive flows can be throttled withoutdegrading the positive shutoff performance of the valve. (see inside back cover for Warnings andCautions).FMC Technologies, Inc.12

Pressure Relief ValveRecommended serviceOver pressure protection for pumps, treating lines, and pressure vessels.Note: The FMC Technologies valve is not considered a full flow reliefvalve; therefore, its main function is a tattletale which indicates the setpressure has been reached. FMC Technologies, Inc.Flowline Products & ServicesWeco ® Actuator Sizing SpecificationsRequired Operating Torques:There are three torques to be considered whenselecting the proper actuator for a butterflyvalve:(1) Seating Torque - The torque required todisplace a resilient seat and effect shutoff(2) Bearing Torque - The torque required toovercome friction forces on the valve shaftbearing surfaces(3) Dynamic Torque - Torque due to fluidforces which tend to close the valve.Dynamic TorqueDynamic torque is torque on the valve shaftdue to the fluid forces on the valve disc. Thistorque is a function of valve diameter, pressuredrop, and a torque coefficient (Ct) which varieswith angle opening. Torque is calculated by theequation:T = C tD 3 ∆P Where: T = Dynamic torque (in-lb)D = Valve Dia (in.)C t= Dynamic torque coefficient(see table below)The torques for resilient seated valves tabulatedin this section are the sum of (1) and (2) abovefor various shutoff pressures. These tabulatedvalues include a safety factor large enough toinsure proper valve operation in most generalbutterfly valve applications. Where unusualservice conditions exist (such as likelihood ofseat swelling, or low and high temperature seathardening), an additional safety factor may beapplicable.C t vs. Angle OpenAngleOpen0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90C t0 .007 .014 .022 .033 .050 .087 .143 .215 0Weco ® ActuatorSizing Information57

FMC Technologies, Inc.Flowline Products & ServicesWeco ® Actuator Sizing InformationWeco ® ActuatorSizing InformationDynamic torque is not usually of major concernin resilient seated butterfly valves unless the linevelocity exceeds 20 fps. If line velocity exceedsthis, a check should be made to insure thatactuator output exceeds the calculated dynamictorque. Dynamic torque should be checked at80° open for 0n-off applications.Dynamic torque is of prime consideration insituations where line velocity is not recovereddownstream of the valve. This situation existson installations where’ there is an unlimitedsource and less than 6 diameters of pipedownstream of the valve. If a valve dischargesto the atmosphere, the pressure drop across thevalve will be equal to the height of water abovethe valve for all angles of valve opening. Thispressure drop must not exceed the pressure dropActuators Sizing Torque for Weco ® Butterfly ValvesNOTE:ValveSize,in.221⁄234568101214161820240 psi0 kPa901013015200233502353560770871,3501532,1002373,0003393,6804164,8805516,2307047,77087811,1001250Seating Torque In Inch-lb (N*m), @ Various Line Pressures50 psi75 psi100 psi125 psi345 kPa517 kPa690 kPa862 kPa9092949610101111130134138142151515162002062122182323242535036638239840414345535566597628606467717708238769298793991051,3501,4751,6001,7251531671811952,1002,3402,5802,8202372642923193,0003,4003,8004,2003393844294754,2404,7905,3505,9004795416056675,7306,5807,4308,2806477448409367,4608,6909,92011,150843982112112609,38011,00012,61014,230106012431425161014,01016,92019,83022,7401580191022402570tabulated in Maximum ∆P vs. Angle OpeningTables for any angle.
