Kohl’s and St. Alexius
As the Kohl’s corporate
website puts it,
“Through its Kohl's Cares for Kids®
programs, Kohl's strives to be an
active member of each community
where it does business,” and the
Bismarck-Mandan community is
no exception. Since the Kohl’s store
opened in Bismarck-Mandan in
October 2005, the community has
benefitted from Kohl’s’ corporate
citizenship in many ways.
The Kohl’s philanthropic
effort focuses on keeping children
healthy, with an emphasis
on injury prevention and
immunization programs. To date,
Kohl's Cares for Kids ®, which
began in 2000, has raised more
than $126 million to support
children's health and education
initiatives nationwide, according
to its corporate website.
When each new Kohl's store
opens, Kohl’s Corporation selects
an area hospital to receive the proceeds from the
sale of Kohl's Cares for Kids ® merchandise. The
merchandise includes children’s books and plush
toys, each selling for $5. The Kohl’s website reports
that, in 2008, Kohl’s donated nearly $15.1 million
to 151 children’s hospitals across the country and
that Kohl’s partners with 156 hospitals.

Alexius Medical Center. Jaclyn Bugbee, director of
St. Alexius Medical Center Foundation, says the
medical center has received over $63,000 so far
towards children’s projects.
Through the Kohl’s funding, St. Alexius
provides three annual health and safety events
for children in Bismarck-Mandan and the
surrounding region: Children's Fun and Health
Day (March); Summer Fun and Safety Day (May);
