I hope this month finds everyone fully settled into 2012. It’s hard to believe that we are already in March. Congratulations are in order for Director-at- Large Judith Hanson. Judi was selected as Southern Nevada Director of the Year at the 2012 Community Association Institute’s Annual Awards Gala in January. Way to go Judi! Jim Hill recently resigned as chairperson of the Communications Committee. Jim was the Chair since the committee’s inception and did a great job in leading the committee over the past several years. Thank you, Jim, for all of your hard work on behalf of the community, and thank you for remaining a member of the committee. Congrats to Gaylynne Schaefer who was elected as the new chair of the Communications Committee. I know that Gaylynne will do a great job in her new position, as she has done over the past several years as a member of the committee. To paraphrase an old saying, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a weed”… which, of course, leads me to the discussion of the coming spring/ summer months where weeds will proliferate, residents will be inclined to leave garage doors partially or fully opened, shrubbery may not be trimmed adequately and animals will be hatching and being given birth to. We are a homeowner’s association – a community in which we all bought our homes knowing that we would have to abide by the rules and governing documents of the place we chose to call home. Our compliance director is ever vigilant in driving through our community and keeping a watchful eye on how our residents are maintaining the outside of their homes. None of us wants to get a letter from our compliance department informing us that we may be in violation of our governing documents and calling us to a hearing in front of the Covenants Committee. Actually, there should never be any reason for someone to get such a letter. “Police” your property on a regular basis and make sure all is in order. As someone who spent over thirty years in law enforcement, I am still amazed that people willingly keep their garage doors open, even slightly. You are just inviting both four legged and two legged (much worse than four legged ones since those on two legs steal, rape and murder) creatures into your living (Continues on page 21) Congratulations to Judi Hanson! At the Community Associations Institute (CAI) Gala Awards on Saturday, January 15, 2012 at Treasure Island Las Vegas, Judi won the “Southern Nevada Board Member of the Year” award. Judi is the past president & current vice president of the Aliante Master Association. She is a director-at-large at Sun City Aliante Board of Directors and serves as liaison to the Communication Committee. March 2012 - 3 W W W .
