Message froM Your Board
President
Mark Smith, President, Board of Directors
Happy february to one and all!
I hope this month finds everyone fully settled
into 2012. It’s hard to believe that we are
already in March.
Congratulations are in order for Director-at-
Large Judith Hanson. Judi was selected as
Southern Nevada Director of the Year at the 2012 Community
Association Institute’s Annual Awards Gala in January. Way to go Judi!
Jim Hill recently resigned as chairperson of the Communications Committee.
Jim was the Chair since the committee’s inception and did a great job in leading
the committee over the past several years. Thank you, Jim, for all of your hard
work on behalf of the community, and thank you for remaining a member of
the committee.
Congrats to Gaylynne Schaefer who was elected as the new chair of the
Communications Committee. I know that Gaylynne will do a great job in her
new position, as she has done over the past several years as a member of the
committee.
To paraphrase an old saying, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a
weed”… which, of course, leads me to the discussion of the coming spring/
summer months where weeds will proliferate, residents will be inclined to
leave garage doors partially or fully opened, shrubbery may not be trimmed
adequately and animals will be hatching and being given birth to.
We are a homeowner’s association – a community in which we all bought
our homes knowing that we would have to abide by the rules and governing
documents of the place we chose to call home. Our compliance director is ever
vigilant in driving through our community and keeping a watchful eye on how
our residents are maintaining the outside of their homes.
None of us wants to get a letter from our compliance department informing
us that we may be in violation of our governing documents and calling us to a
hearing in front of the Covenants Committee. Actually, there should never be
any reason for someone to get such a letter. “Police” your property on a regular
basis and make sure all is in order.
As someone who spent over thirty years in law enforcement, I am still amazed
that people willingly keep their garage doors open, even slightly. You are just
inviting both four legged and two legged (much worse than four legged ones
since those on two legs steal, rape and murder) creatures into your living
(Continues on page 21)
Congratulations to Judi Hanson!
At the Community Associations Institute (CAI) Gala Awards on
Saturday, January 15, 2012 at Treasure Island Las Vegas, Judi won
the “Southern Nevada Board Member of the Year” award. Judi is
the past president & current vice president of the Aliante Master
Association. She is a director-at-large at Sun City Aliante Board of
Directors and serves as liaison to the Communication Committee.
ASSOCIAtION NEWS
dear residents,
March has finally arrived and in
Las Vegas it is eventful. This is the
time of year when the average high
temperature in Las Vegas is 69 F, and
the average low temperature is
44 F; definitely nice temperatures
to enjoy a bit of walking and swing
a golf club or two. Rainfall barely
exists with the average at .42” and
humidity at 22%. Stay in town, the
weather is just right to do almost
anything you want.
Enjoy the annual Las Vegas
extravaganza – the NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series. Also popular are the month-long World Series of Poker,
Auto Parts Monster Jam World Finals, Las Vegas Marathon, Fremont
Street Mardi Gras, NHRA Nationals, Blue Sky International Film
Festival and Greek Food Festival.
March Madness is when the countdown for the Collegiate National
Basketball Championship will be under way. March Madness in
Vegas is exactly what it sounds like…Madness! Swarms of bettors
from around the country flock to Vegas to make their picks. This
weekend isn’t just for gamblers, but spring-breakers too!
Along with great Vegas events, get ready to shed some clothing.
You’ll feel it in the air; it’s time to start dusting off the lounge chairs
– the pool season is about to begin! If you enjoy golf, the conditions
in March are superb. For many people, twilight on the golf course in
March is nothing less than blissful.
4 - March 2012
March offers some of the best walking weather in Las Vegas. Spring
is all about the bright sunshine and the crisp air on the Las Vegas
Strip. Walking along the Strip in the middle of the day is neither too
cold nor too hot. Go ahead, put in a few miles up and down the Strip,
and then, have a fabulous lunch at a spot like Spagos or Mon Ami
Gabi where you can watch people walk by.
And for you show-goers, enjoy some wonderful concerts and events.
These include the RMI Appreciation events at Aliante Casino - “Jack
Walker & friends Variety show” and comedian “dave Burleigh.”
In Las Vegas, enjoy Ron White, Celine Dion, George Thorogood &
The Destroyers, Bill Engvail, Chicago, Diamond Rio, Bela Fleck and
the Flecktones, Rodney Carrington, The Very Best of Andrew Lloyd
Webber, Jay Leno, The Canadian Tenors, Carlos Mencia, Rod Stewart
and John Pinette.
AGE SURVEY UPDATE – Please note
that if you haven’t returned the
enclosed insert 2012 AGE SURVEY
FORM, please do so now and return
it to the Community Center. This is
the last month it will be inserted
in The Breeze. It is the resident’s
requirement to submit it. If you are
a tenant and the homeowner of the property did not mail you the
form, please stop by the Community Center to obtain and complete
one. You can also call me at 638-5017 or Virginia at 638-5006, and we
can E-mail, fax or send you one. Don’t be caught being called to a
hearing for not returning it. It is a mandatory required form.
LANDSCAPING – Please start checking your yard for weeds, removal
of dead stalks from your bushes and required trimming should start
soon. Also, remember that once the temperatures start to climb you
will need to check your sprinklers/drip system and timers. It costs
less to do that than to replace dead bushes and trees.
NEW HOMEOWNERS – Please remember once you close escrow
you need to provide the Membership office with a copy of your
driver’s license and contact information, along with your current
mailing address. You can contact Virginia at 638-5006, and she
can provide you with the necessary documents required by the
association. Also, please don’t hesitate to stop by and introduce
yourself. We welcome you.
SEASONAL HOMEOWNERS – If you only visit your property
occasionally, please make sure you make arrangements for someone
to check your property. When a home has flyers and newspapers
lying around, it creates an invitation for theft and robbery. It also
creates a mess as the miscellaneous papers blow throughout the
neighborhood.
ALL HOMEOWNERS – Have a great month and stop in and say hi.
Sincerely,
The Lifestyle Committee had a very long and eventful meeting on
January 26. The Committee followed up with recent community
event leaders to discuss the outcome of their recent events.
Representatives from the High Tea, Thanksgiving, Decorating and
New Year’s Eve groups shared their valuable feedback. Their input
will help to shape future events here in our community.
Our event planners deserve a “huge” thank you for putting on these
events, giving their personal time and making our community a
better place to live. Volunteers add to the fabric of our lifestyle at Sun
City Aliante. If you would like to give our community a hand, please
be sure to see Lynn Wright, Activities & Fitness Director, or Lifestyle
Committee members on how you can join in and have some fun.
Joining an event’s committee or being an event leader is a great way
to meet residents, make friends and influence changes within your
community.
If you want to start a new club, please be sure to follow these simple
steps:
1. Check in with Lynn Wright, Activities & Fitness Director, for
step by step instructions.
2. Lynn will place an interest sheet on the activities counter so
you can poll for future interest. Residents should then go to
the monitor’s desk to place their name on the interest sheet.
3. If there is enough resident interest, Lynn will give you a
simple one page document to be completed for your new
club or special interest group.
4. Then, prior to attending the next Lifestyle Committee
meeting, you will contact all interested residents to discuss
your plans for the club and seek a consensus on days/time
and any other important policies and procedures for your
club.
5. Meet with the Lifestyle Committee to present your club’s
plan, appropriate procedures and completed paperwork to
become a club. (The Lifestyle Committee meets on the third
Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. Be sure to put yourself
on the agenda with Lynn Wright, no later than the Thursday
before the regularly scheduled Lifestyle meeting.)
6. If all is in order, the Lifestyle Committee will be able to vote
on your request.
7. If passed by the Lifestyle Committee, your request will move
forward to the Board of Directors for final approval.
Tai Chi & Meditation
The Benefits of Mediation
• Calm and quiet your mind and body
• Reduce stress
• Allows you to relax
• Controls anxiety
• Enhances the immune system
• Reduces high blood pressure
• Manages chronic pain
• Controls substance abuse
• Brings you inner joy, peace and love
• Allows you to focus on being present
• Allows you to think clearly and resolve issues more effectively
• Brings harmony and balance into your life and those closest to
you
• Helps you breathe more deeply and effectively
• Allows you to connect and become one with your mind, body
and spirit
tai Chi or Ki gong, the healing essence of tai Chi, serves to help us
stop our thinking or mind chatter, so we are able to connect with our
true self, find balance, peace and harmony. This allows the mind and
body to restore itself back to its state of perfect health.
Ki gong is a slow moving meditation exercise enabling you to
become aware of your breath, body and spirit. “Ki” refers to life’s vital
energy while “Gong” refers to practice or exercise.
Ki Gong gently moves all your major joints and is an excellent daily
exercise for all ages, especially those over 50 or with disabilities.
Another important benefit is oxygen, a natural antibiotic, which
comes from the intentional deep diaphragmatic breathing used in
Ki Gong. Deep breathing cleanses and purifies the body supplying
it with more oxygen, assisting in cell rejuvenation. It also slows the
heart rate down and lowers blood pressure.
Be sure to experience the benefits of tai Chi/Ki gong with Mitch
here at SCAL Community Center. He holds mediation classes on
Thursdays at 4 p.m. and Tai Chi classes on Fridays at 10 a.m.
Blood Pressure CHeCKs
Donna McCarthur from Centennial Hills Hospital will perform free
blood pressure checks on friday, March 9, from 9-10 a.m. in the
done on a first-come, first-served basis.
Golf Teez
By Dennis Silvers
Ah, springtime in Las Vegas.
Nothing quite like it. The
sunny weather, the sight
and smell of beautiful new
flowers... and the REAL
beginning of the golf
season! With the cold
winter weather behind
us, now we can get out
to the golf course and
work on our game, and
work on it we should.
Anytime you have a
slow down in playing any
sport, especially golf, you need to gradually build up
both the physical and mental tolerance you need to play your best
golf.
Here are a few suggestions that I know will help you get back to
swinging like your ol’ self after coming out of winter’s hibernation.
• Start spending as much time as you can devote on the practice
tee... especially the short game areas.
• If you haven’t played much golf through the winter, most likely,
you have lost some touch throughout your short game.
• Do a lot of putting drills, which will rapidly help you develop
your feel for distance control and help the tempo in your
putting stroke.
• Work on little chip shots from just off the green which will again
rapidly improve your touch and technique.
• And, unless you plan on not getting into any bunkers this
season (wouldn’t that be great!), work on those green side
bunker shots as well. This will promote good technique as well
as confidence.
• Finally, when you’re hitting practice shots on the range, be
realistic. You probably haven’t played a lot of golf throughout
the winter, so start off gradually.
Make sure you do a good stretching routine before hitting balls to
help prevent injury. Work through your shots slowly and think about
what you are trying to accomplish, while you’re also working on
your swing mechanics. If you
haven’t played a lot, make it
a point to go through your
bag and hit each and every
club to familiarize yourself
with what the club will do.
Again, be realistic. Until you
start to routinely play, your
golf muscles won’t be what
they should be. Be patient.
The more you start to play,
the easier it will become, and
the more fun you’ll have.
And speaking of fun, the
professional staff at Aliante
Golf Club will hold a FREE
golf clinic exclusively for Sun City resident golfers on the second
Wednesday of each month. So mark your calendar for Wednesday,
March 14, and plan to meet us at the Club House at 11 a.m.
Attending these clinics will go a long way in getting your game back
into shape to start enjoying not only spring golf, but summer and fall
golf as well.
Hope to see all of you out there!
Grape Street Café,
Wine Bar
and Cellar.
Great food and wine in a relaxed
atmosphere. This epitomizes my very
favorite restaurant in Las Vegas… Grape
Street Café, Wine Bar and Cellar. Located
in the heart of Summerlin, far from the
hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip,
it’s no secret to locals. Inspired by the
design and feel of a Napa Valley Winery,
Grape Street has been named by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as
a “Best of Las Vegas” Award Winner and recognized for having the
“Best” in several categories: Wine Bar, Patio Dining, Appetizer and
Dessert.
Grape Street offers some 200 boutique wines, and there are 80
wines by the glass to choose from. The cafe features an interesting,
diverse menu of classic and contemporary dishes. My favorite
appetizers are the mouthwatering baked Brie, a pastry filled with
melted Brie, toasted hazelnuts, caramelized onions and apricot
preserves and the delicious fried calamari with their “secret sauce”.
And that’s just the beginning!
For luncheon fare, they offer a variety of salads and sandwiches
served on homemade French rolls. Their orange chicken, blackened
salmon and steak salads are all very delicious; popular sandwiches
include the Portobello Philly with onions, peppers and smoked
Gouda, salmon
burger and roasted
vegetable.
Grape Street
offers a pleasing
variety of entrees
including Filet
Oscar, Colorado rack
of lamb, Bellon’s
chicken parmesan,
Chicken Marsala,
grilled salmon and
Hawaiian Ahi Tuna.
Delectable Italian
specialties include Chicken Gorgonzola, Bowtie Olivia and Linguine
with clams and in red or white wine sauce and pastas. And they
cook an eggplant parmesan to die for!!!!
Top off a delicious meal with a fabulous dessert. Their sorbets and
profiteroles are made in house.
Grape Street recently celebrated its 14th anniversary and has
become a local’s favorite under the tutelage of Owner/Chef John
McKibben. He still enjoys cooking every day, and he’s often found
walking around the restaurant greeting customers.
Check out Grape Street’s Happy Hour Tuesday through Friday, 3
p.m. to 6 p.m. when they offer specials on wine and appetizers. They
also feature Live Jazz on Fridays, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 7
p.m. to 10 p.m. Located on 7501 W. Lake Mead Blvd. near Buffalo
Drive, Grape Street is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through
Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more
information, visit www.grapestreetcafe.com.
I hope you come to love Grape Street Café as much as I do! See you
next month!!!
Bennett Miller’s
Brad Pitt as Billy Beane,
a one-time phenom who
flamed out in the big
leagues and now works
as the GM for the Oakland
Athletics, a franchise
that’s about to lose their three best players to free agency.
Because the team isn’t in a financial position to spend as much as perennial
favorites like the Yankees and the Red Sox, Beane realizes he needs to
radically change how he evaluates what players can bring to the squad.
After he meets Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), an Ivy League economics major
working as an executive assistant for scouting on another team, Beane
realizes he’s found the man who understands how to subvert the system
of assessing players that’s been in place for nearly a century. However, as
the duo begin to acquire players that seem too old, injured, or inept to play
major-league baseball, they face stiff resistance from both the A’s longtime
scouts and the team’s manager Art Howe (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who
outright refuses to allow Beane’s more-nontraditional acquisitions to play.
fine or other penalty for creating such a condition. You may enjoy
feeding the pigeons, but you don’t live in the woods – you live
in a homeowner’s association, and you must be considerate of
your neighbors. I have instructed the compliance department to
aggressively pursue complaints of this nature; so please, please,
don’t feed the pigeons and other critters that inhabit our community.
On another note, the once a week sanitation pick-up begins in
March. Please remember that this was fostered upon us by the
City of North Las Vegas and Republic Services --Sun City Aliante
was not consulted or asked for its opinion. The Board knows and
understands that our garages are not full size and that Pulte got
permission from the City of North Las Vegas to make them smaller
than a regular garage. The Board members are in the same position
as everyone else as far as the size of their respective garages. I
suggest that we make the best of the situation and I realize that no
one likes change. I know that I have spent the past month making
room in my garage – getting rid of all the “must have things” that I
have had stored in it for the past six years and have never looked at,
used or needed, but had to have safely tucked away. Perhaps this
will give some of us a good excuse to get ride of some things that
we should have parted with a long time ago. Don’t forget there is
a spring garage sale coming up, and perhaps, you can make some
bucks this year.
If you have any questions or concerns about the program, please call
Mr. Steven De Stefano, the Project Manager for Republic Services.
His office number is 599-5561 and his cell phone number is 280-
0014.
For what it’s worth, my daughter and her family live in North Las
Vegas, and they have had once a week pick-up for almost a year.
There are three adults, three children (two in pampers), a dog and a
cat in her household. She reports that she has not had any problem
with odors, insects, bugs, etc. She has also told me that the vast
majority of the garbage is recyclable and the system is working well.
At the January Board meeting, the Board voted to purchase a vehicle
for the Neighborhood Watch Volunteers to use, rather than using
the association’s pick-up truck or their own vehicles. That purchase
has been made, and we are now the proud owners of a white Ford
SUV. Please make sure you waive and say high to our Neighborhood
Watch volunteers when they drive by. They give their time and
energy to make all of us just a bit safer. A very big THANK YOU to all
of our Neighborhood Watch volunteers, and I hope you enjoy your
new ride.
Spring is right around the corner, and the beautiful weather will be
with us for a few months before the heat sets in. Enjoy yourselves,
make the most of our facilities and stay safe and well. See you
around the clubhouse and at the Board meeting in March.
Respectfully,
Mark A. Smith, President
TOP 10 Foods
for Lowering
Cholesterol
One of the easiest ways to achieve your goal for
better health and well being!
Almonds - Rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, almonds help
keep blood vessels healthy.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, eating about a
handful (1.5 ounces, or 42.5 grams) a day of most nuts, such as
almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, some pine nuts, pistachio nuts
and walnuts, may reduce your risk of heart disease. Just make sure
the nuts you eat aren’t salted or coated with sugar.
Orange Juice - Orange juice is quite high in vitamin C, which
helps boost your body’s immune system.
The high level of antioxidants in orange juice may help reduce your
risk of cancer, and other components of the juice may help relieve
arthritis pain and decrease your risk of heart attack, high blood
pressure and high cholesterol. The citrus in orange juice has also
been shown to prevent or at least lessen the development of kidney
stones.
Olive Oil - Olive oil contains a potent mix of antioxidants that
can lower your “bad” (LDL) cholesterol but leave your “good”
(HDL) cholesterol untouched.
The Food and Drug Administration
recommends using about 2 tablespoons
(23 grams) of olive oil a day in place of
other fats in your diet to get its hearthealthy
benefits. The cholesterol-lowering
effects of olive oil are even greater if you
choose extra-virgin olive oil, meaning the
oil is less processed and contains more
heart-healthy antioxidants. But keep in
mind that “light” olive oils are usually
more processed than extra-virgin or virgin
olive oils and are lighter in color, not fat or
calories.
Steamed Asparagus - There’s
nothing wrong with a platter of crudités
or a salad if you want to improve your
diet, but steaming may help improve the
cholesterol-lowering capabilities of some
produce, including asparagus.
Other veggies that get better after a short
bout in the steam: beets, okra, carrots,
eggplant, green beans, and cauliflower.
Researchers think steaming these veggies
may help them do a better job of binding
bile acids, which means your liver needs
to use up more LDL cholesterol into
order to make bile. That translates into
22 - March 2012
less circulating LDL in your
bloodstream.
Oatmeal - Oatmeal
contains soluble fiber,
which reduces your lowdensity
lipoprotein (LDL),
the “bad” cholesterol.
Soluble fiber is also found
in such foods as kidney
beans, apples, pears, barley
and prunes. Soluble fiber
can reduce the absorption
of cholesterol into your
bloodstream. Five to 10
grams or more of soluble
fiber a day decreases your
total and LDL cholesterol.
Eating 1 1/2 cups of cooked
oatmeal provides 6 grams of fiber. If you add fruit, such as bananas,
you’ll add about 4 more grams of fiber. To mix it up a little, try steelcut
oatmeal or cold cereal made with oatmeal or oat bran.
Pinto Beans - a very good source of cholesterol-lowering fiber,
as are most other beans.
In addition to lowering cholesterol, pinto beans’ high fiber content
prevents blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after a meal,
making these beans an especially good choice for individuals with
diabetes, insulin resistance or hypoglycemia. When combined with
whole grains such as brown rice, pinto beans provide virtually fatfree,
high quality protein. But this is far from all pinto beans have to
offer. Pinto beans are also an excellent source of molybdenum, a very
good source of folate, and a good source of protein and vitamin B1
as well as the minerals phosphorus, iron, magnesium, manganese,
and potassium.
PoKer CluB
The Sun City Aliante Poker Club meets every Wednesday and Friday
at 5 p.m. We welcome new and former players. We play Texas
Hold’em and “Dealer’s Choice.”
If you’re new to Texas Hold’em or the Poker Club, we have a “newbie”
orientation on the first Wednesday of the month (4-5 pm). This will
allow you to become familiar with our style of play (betting, dealing,
guidelines, etc).
For additional information, contact Terri Petrie at 405-7382 or E-mail
terri@terripetrie.com). The Poker Club is a great way to meet and
socialize with your neighbors. Hope to see you there.
Veterans CluB
Greetings friends and neighbor!
On behalf of the Veterans Club, I’m very pleased to announce the
pancake breakfast we hosted on January 14 was a resounding
success. We served about 166 people, and we were able to donate
$541 to the USO for their work. Thank you all very much for your
support. We are planning another breakfast in October, and will
donate the proceeds to another worthy cause. Special thanks to all
who volunteered their time and talents for this fun event.
In February, 49 veterans and spouses enjoyed a wonderful trip to
Nellis Air Force Base, where we met “The Thunderbirds.” A big
thank you to Bob Russ for doing all the legwork to put this trip
together. We are planning more exciting events in the future; our
calendar for 2012 is coming together, and we’ll give you the dates
as we finalize them.
Please don’t forget the “Veterans stand down” will take place on
March 21-22. The event features many needed services for homeless
veterans. If you’d like to receive more information or volunteer,
please contact Ron Wurstner at rdwurstnet@cox.net, Bob Russ at
robertruss@gmail.com or myself at synlo@sbcglobal.net.
The Veteran’s Auxiliary meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month in
the Community Center Board Room. For more information, contact
Anne Zarate at 657-9807.
Once again, on behalf of the Veterans of Sun City Aliante, I’d like to
thank all our members, the Auxiliary and our friends and neighbors
for all of your support and assistance.
Please support and pray for our troops!
Thank you for taking the time to check out the details of establishing
and joining the Karaoke Club of SCAL. The Life Style Committee has
given me permission to go ahead with the creation of a Karaoke Club
for the residents of our community.
The first order of business to get started is to get an accurate list
of all those residents who would like to be included in the list of
club members. Although many of you signed up originally on the
interest sheet (available at the Monitor’s desk), some of the contact
information is very hard to read and may have changed over the past
year. I am requesting everyone with interest in joining the Karaoke
Club of SCAL to please submit their contact information to me.
Once I’ve collected the required information, I’ll contact you all, and
we’ll get together for our first meeting and decide how we’d like to
go forward with the club. Your suggestions will be very important
in our decisions as to how we want to conduct each singing session
and where you’d like to actually have our club meeting. Please send
your name, telephone number and type of music you enjoy singing
to whawkret@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
Congratulations to sally dobson and all of the Pickleball players
on becoming one of the newest sanctioned clubs here in Sun City
Aliante. We are happy to share our courts with such an enthusiastic
group of players.
All of our tennis players can now shed some of those layers of
clothing, as winter is over and the mornings are a bit warmer. Our
starting time for Saturday Club Day remains at 8 a.m. for one more
month, and then we’ll move to 7:30 a.m. on April 1. The same holds
true for Tuesday and Thursday mornings. You can always come earlier
if you wish.
We use our ball machine regularly, and hope to have a backboard
installed on the court soon. Don’t forget to check in each time you
play, and have your cards scanned at the monitor’s desk. Questions?
Greeting Neighbors:
January 2012 was our most active month in the community for
Seniors Assisting Seniors (SAS) with a total of 12 service calls. During
the past 10 months, SAS made 62 service calls with 15 volunteers.
We usually respond within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the need.
The dreaded smoke alarm or CO2 detector beeping generates an
immediate response, if at all possible.
We have picked up and delivered 18 pieces of equipment. We
supply the equipment and batteries, along with the service for free.
Residents are required to provide the air conditioning filters, light
bulbs and salt for the water softeners.
SAS, in coordination with Neighborhood Watch, will begin replacing
burned-out address light bulbs at no charge in March. Our goal is to
ensure all the address lights in our community are working. These
lights are important to help others find your home at night. If you
have a need, please do not hesitate to call SAS at 702-981-3149. We
are here to serve our residents.
top 10 (continues from page 22)
Blueberries - contain chemicals called antioxidants that have
been linked to lowering cholesterol levels, encouraging heart
health, and protecting the body against certain types of cancers.
Blueberries contain the phytosterol, pterostilbene, which is similar to
resveratrol, another antioxidant found in grapes and red wine.
Tomatoes - there are many health benefits of tomatoes and
there is one more that could possibly be added to the list --
tomatoes lower cholesterol.
Tomatoes contain many antioxidants, including a chemical called
lycopene. There has been a lot of research investigating tomatoes
and the chemicals contained in them like lycopene. From these
studies, tomatoes have been shown to possess a vast array of healthy
benefits, including macular degeneration and certain cancers.
Studies have also proven that tomatoes may provide healthy effects
on your cholesterol.
Avacado - an excellent source of many vitamins and minerals as
well as the healthy monounsaturated fats and lots of fiber.
In fact, it has more potassium than a banana. Studies have shown
that a diet that includes regular intake of avocadoes can reduce
cholesterol, and we know that diets rich in fiber can reduce your risk
for colon cancer.
Dark Chocolate - a small bar of it everyday can help keep your
heart and cardiovascular system running well.
Two heart health benefits of dark chocolate are lower blood pressure
and lower cholesterol. Dark chocolate has also been shown to
reduce LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) by up to 10 percent.
