From the Director’s DeskOn March 25th, 2011, the Bhubaneswar Chapter of The Indus Enterpreneur (TiE)was inaugurated by none other than entrepreneurship personified: Sam Pitroda.Sam Pitroda was born in Titlagarh and did his initial schooling in Odisha. How hewent on to create the Telecom Revolution and CDOT is the stuff of dreams. Anyway, thepoint that he and other speakers made was innovation has to be need based and notnecessarily hi-tech or elite. There is wealth for the entrepreneur at the bottom of the pyramidand agriculture, horticulture, medical care, mass education are the new challenge areas.TiE is a platform to learn, network and for mentorship. As a charter member of TiE, Odisha,I hope to get implementable ideas for possible mentoring from our students and others.I congratulate the large number of students who have been fairly successful in the GATE examinations. Howevermuch remains to be done since IITs/IISc need top scores. Similarly I encourage students to apply for MS/PhDin top foreign Universities. India’s technology revolution will be led by knowledge leaders armed with top degreesand global ambitions. NISTians should plan to be the early movers in the coming decade. How about a GRE/GMAT Club? The country passed through a tumultuous 5 days as Gandhian Anna Hazare sat down to prove a point. Suddenlythe middle class got its hero and its voice which was long suppressed. Arvind Kejriwal – a fellow engineer fromIIT/KGP (1989 batch) and the recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay award, deserves kudos for making the JanLokpal Bill a possible reality. The movement has cut across all caste, creed, religions, regions, languages, and wehad seen nothing like this before. May it herald a new change in social consciousness among the student communityand may the idealism sweep away the cobwebs of the last 60 years of mis-governance of our country. Can ouryouth put behind its paranoid (crazy) fascination with cricket and Bollywood and focus on the mammoth social, economic and political problems of our country? With Best Wishes,15 April 2011 Sangram MudaliFrom the Editors’ DeskFor some time now, the importance of ‘Certification Programs’ at both school and college levels has beendebated upon. With increasing competition for employability, certifications enable the recruiter to traceout the candidate’s professional ability, through a very competent way. Our Institute ,on realizing the needof the hour, initiates and promotes different trainings and certification programs, on both technical and soft skillsareas. The on-going summer training programs on varied technical domains, the large number of students beingcertified under University of Cambridge -BEC Program, and the English Reading Revolution (ERR) sessionspromoting vocabulary enhancement and newspaper & novel reading, have definitely instilled much confidenceand vigor among the students to emerge as winners.Around 150 NIST students, having scored 9.0 and above in the University Exam’s final CGPA, have set up achallenge before the rest. Similarly the 6 NISTians among the top 10 winners of the IT Olympiad have made usproud. With more placement successes for B. Tech., MCA, MBA and PGDM students NIST is all set for anexciting time ahead.Amrut Phalguni MohantyDipti Ranjan LenkaNational Institute of Science & Technology, Berhampur, 761008 2 of 18

Syria leading to the ouster of the president Bashar Al Asad after 11 years of rule. Adding more fuel to the ongoingviolence, inter-communal war broke out in the African country, Ivory Coast, after the country’s former rebels pressedan offensive to oust Laurent Gbagbo, leading to death of around 800 people. On the national forefront, the SupremeCourt gave a remarkable decision by approving the passive form of Euthanasia in which a person in passive state fora long period of time can be relieved of the painful life after the consent of family members, friends and two specializeddoctors. Justice was affirmed to the victims of Godhra massacre, in which around 59 people were charred to death inthe Sabarmati Express, thereby igniting communal riots across Gujarat, with the trial court awarding death sentenceto 11 of the accused and sentencing 25 others with life imprisonment. Scams now being an integral part of currentaffairs, moved one step ahead when the Pune stud farm owner, Hasan Ali Khan, was nabbed by CBI for havinginvolvement in severe money laundering activities. With more obstacles in the path, the ruling govt. came underintense pressure with the Wiki-leaks revelation of involvement of several Congress MP’s in horse-trading to gathersupport for N-deal with USA. A serious laxity was highlighted when DGCA found out the involvement of several topofficials, pilots and flying schools in the forgery behind securing of licenses by paying money. The sports world witnessed one of thefinest fantasies coming true with INDIA winning the ICC WORLD CUP 2011 thus ending the drought after 28 years.Hearty and sincere thanks to the WINCREDIBLE Indian cricket team.Cynosure of all EyesMs. Neena Choudhary, B. Tech., 6 th Sem., Team e_newsHello Readers! Cricket World Cup 2011 had won over all hearts and minds. I know that Newsdeskand Sportscast has already given you all memories you wanted to recollect, but then even Icould not stop myself from writing anything else apart Cricket. I still get Goosebumps remembering thelast six hit by the captain and I know so do you.Just Imagine!! The whole country was roaring for the World Cup. Dhak Dhak Go! India Go! It had been a remarkablecricketing month and will be remembered for ages to come. The win over all previous World Champions to win theWorld Cup was marvelous. Emotions won’t stop flowing and I have to very wisely use this column, as I say tobring around a possible change. The World Cup in the sub-continent not only gave us the precious memoriesbut has also taught us a lesson. You remember how all hearts beat for one Cup, all prayers towards one achievementand every single tear when Sachin, Yuvi and Bhajji cried? We have the power to do it with one force and thepower lies within us. We have proved that we can together create an impact and then there will be no oneto impede us (neither Mr. Raj Thackerey, nor the terrorists who have dared to attack us time and again)from taking the nation to great heights. See, “United we stand, divided we fall”. No sooner was the World Cup overthat we again proved the maxim to be correct. It was imposing to see how the whole nation stood in support ofGandhian Anna Hazare. And what I believe the major reason for such public arousing was the just concluded WorldCup celebrations which gave the whole nation a platform to share their sentiments, opinion, hopes and the tears of joy.Do you know that India would have never seen the Mumbai riots, the Godhra Carnage, and the mayhem over BabriMasjid if we stood unified? There are people not only outside the nation but many within the nation who wait for suchopportunities only to get a political seat and then fill up their pockets. The time is not to support or go againstHindutva, instead it is high time to get together and raise issues which have been bulldozing our countrysince years. Whoa! This sounds too much, but then if a 75 year old man can, then why not you and me. How manyNational Institute of Science & Technology, Berhampur, 761008 13 of 18

of us know what Anna Hazare stood up for? Have you heard of the Lokpal Bill? We have adequate time to gossipabout various useless self-framed topics but then never sit down to discuss the actual issues affecting millions. All ofus cannot become the world’s best engineers but we will not require any criteria to become a responsible citizen. 26/11 Mumbai attack reminds us of the courage with which every Indian fought and the sacrifices we made to renderpeace. We just haven’t realized how the power of unity can bring a change around us. If we take up all the issues ofconcern the way we did it for cricket, there will be so much vigor to wipe out all the problems of ourcountry. Speak Strike and Redress![Any suggestions or feedback regarding the article are welcome and can be mailed to me.neenac@gmail.com]SAT SAYS: International Men’s dayMr. Kewal Krishna, B. Tech., 6th Sem., Team e_newsYes you have finally arrived at the right page. It’s time to throttle the tedium out of your hecticschedules and enjoy the fresh breath. It’s time to realize Nature’s opus- the sweet chirping of the sparrowsand the rustling of breeze, the dawn of dusk (mixing words…advertising for Reliance Mobile?) and themighty blues…(Bleed Blue!!!) . It’s time… let’s cut the chase. Its time you listened to SAT.When SAT sat down (SAT sat down… interesting) to enlighten you this month, SAT got confused (yeah...it canhappen to the greatest of the minds) on what to talk. The editors of this magazine always want SAT to write about thecollege happenings but SAT couldn’t find anything this time (as SAT already told you about SAT’s off day) and wason the verge of losing all hope (just like you were when SACHIN ‘GOD’ TENDULKAR went back to the pavilionmoments after SEHWAG) until that day (there’s always a silver lining) …It was 8 th of March. SAT saw a queue outside the book store in TECH MALL (it’s that building which houses SAGARXEROX & SHREE BOOK STORE…don’t ask SAT where is the ‘TECH’ and where is the ‘MALL’ in it). It was hot andhumid and then a wave of fresh air came about in the form of a girl. She asked very politely if she could get ahead ofall the X chromosomes standing there and get her books xeroxed and yes the mindless gaping creatures obliged.Behold…its International Women’s Day. A coterie of people sitting in warm cozy chairs decided it’s time to havea day for the Eves and show the world that they are developing and shining (just like INDIA Shining…SAT hopesyou got the irony) and hence a day was allocated for the better halves.8 th of March- the world celebrates the fairer sex…fairer??? Yes the three question marks are deliberately put. (If youthought SAT was going to make a speech on womanhood, well dear friend you are wrong.) Is getting ahead in aqueue where men have been standing for hours fair? (It’s a rhetorical question, you don’t have to answer) Don’t youhate it when a girl gets ahead of you and gets the last available tickets of your favorite movie? (Didn’t SAT just toldyou…it’s a rhetorical question, you don’t have to shout out the answer) How often do you have to get up in a bus ortrain so that the pretty lady there can be seated? (There you go again…)Don’t you despise the fact that you have tocarry around the entire luggage whenever you are traveling? And how often have you to pay the bill just because youdon’t put a lipstick or a suns crème or mascara…the list can go on and on and on… To end this grave injustice to thetall, dark and handsome, SAT would like to propose a day for the anger amongst peace, for the greed amongstsacrifice, for the ruthless amongst love, for the problem amongst solution. How about an INTERNATIONAL MEN’sDAY on the 30 th of FEBRUARY because that’s how the dark and handsome had turned dark to the women in their lifefor the past thousands of years- oblivious to their needs and butchers of their desires. Let the men have a taste oftheir own crude medicine and don’t you worry, the perks of a separate queue will still be there…this time it will be youstanding there.Ok then, the clock has come full circle and it’s time to depart as SAT has to go and carry vegetables back home forthe lovely neighbor next door. Until next time think about the proposal and let SAT know what you think of it. Adieu.>National Institute of Science & Technology, Berhampur, 761008 14 of 18

SportscastMr. Naquib Akhtar, B. Tech., 6 th Sem., Team e_newsOnce upon a time there were the Men In Black who saved the world from being conquered; andthen came the Men In Blue who conquered it. “Bleed Blue” that was the atmosphere all aroundthis month as Team India lifted the world cup after a gap of 28 years. So this edition would only concentrateon the path taken by the Indian team towards the biggest glory in world cricket. Being pitted in group B against SouthAfrica, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland and Netherland India finished second in the group stages behindthe Proteas, after loosing the match against them and drawing the one against England in a nail biting thriller. In thequarterfinals ‘Captains Cool’s’ boys faced four time champions and their biggest threat to the cup Australia at Motera. And it was in this match that the bowlers came to the fore by putting up a spirited performance and silencing theircritics. India defeated the Aussie comfortably despite skipper Ponting’s fighting century. Ponting later had to relinquishhis post in favourIndia’s semifinal was the talking point of the tournament. Dubbed as the ‘match of the century ’India faced arch rivalsPakistan at Mohali. Pakistan were set a target of 260 who were playing on India soil for the first time since 2007.Inreply Afridi’s men could not overhaul the target and lost the match by India met Sri Lanka in the finals at theWankhede Stadium who had earlier defeated New Zealand to reach their second successive final. Batting first SriLanka made a shaky start but eventually managed 274 thanks to brilliant century by Mahela Jayawardene. Indiamade a disastrous start with Sehwag and ‘the god’ Tendulkar departing in quick succession early in the innings. Butthe ship was steadied by Gautam Gambhir and captain Dhoni who played a gem of an innings by scoring 91 andbringing up the winning runs by hitting a huge six. Yuvraj Singh was adjudged the ‘player of the tournament’ for hisoutstanding performance both with the bat and ball. Dilshan was the top scorer while Afridi and Zaheer topped thewicket charts with 21 wkts each. In post world cup news coach Gary Kirsten bid adieu to the Indian team after threeyears at the helm.At last coming over to other sports. In the EPL Manchester United continue to lead the league table followed byArsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. Chelsea have had a good comeback after their string of poor performancesand even defeated ManU 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Both of them even face off in the Champions League quarterfinalbeginning in early April. In the Spanish League there are no surprises with Barcelona leading followed by Real Madrid. In the Champions League Madrid face English surprise package Tottenham Hotspur while defending champions InterMilan face German outfit Schalke. In tennis Novak Djokovic continue to rock the tennis circuit by defeating the number one player Rafael Nadal in theMiami Masters while in golf Tiger Woods slipped down to the 7 th position after a string of poor performance. In F1racing Sebastian Vettel of the Red Bulls won the Australian Grand Prix while in Badminton sensation Saina Nehwalregained her number world rankings. And now coming over to cricket once again—IPL IV beginning this month isbound to keep the country once again on the cricket field.BEST FEEDBACKB.Tech7th Sem.5th Sem.3rd Sem.1st Sem.MCA5th Sem.RESEARCH PAPERAcademic Honorarium AwardKaushik HalderM.SureshRajesh Kumar DashBhawani S.
