"MOLLA NASREDDIN" CARTOON CONTEST ALBUM 2010BAYRAM HAJIZADEH [*]The International Cartoon Contest"Molla Nasreddin" traditionally held inAzerbaijan every year has come to anend. The Contest arranged this year hasbeen dedicated to the 130th anniversaryof the first cartoonist of Azerbaijan, thegreat master Azim Azimzadeh. Our mainaim in dedicating of the 3th InternationalCartoon Contest "Molla Nasreddin" to thisimportant event was to honour this greatperson's and immortal artist's memory,get the international communityacquainted closely with his creativity andproductive activity who had great servicesin development of the cartoon art both inAzerbaijan and in the world.Azim Azimzadeh began to cooperatewith "Molla Nasreddin" (that began to bepublished from 1906), which was the firstand only satirical magazine in the wholeMuslim East, from the first day of itspublication, worked as a chief artist of themagazine during 19221931. The artist offighting spirit published his cartoonsalmost in all the satirical magazines andnewspapers those years in Baku and wasthe author ofthousands ofworks withvarious subjects. The great artist beingdevoted to Azerbaijan cartoon traditions,in his each work served our nationalcartoon art with his creativity, productiveand effýcient activity, played a great rolein enriching it. I consider that there is AzimAzimzadeh's share in the victory andsuccess of each Azerbaijani cartoonistand organization of such arrangementsis an indicator of the people's love to hiscreativity and, at the same time, it is thesacred duty of each of us before his spirit.It is no mere chance that the title of theContest was also called "The Artist" inconnection with Azimzadeh's name andactivity. i am very happy that our foreigncolleagues took an activepart in thiscontest and sent hundreds ofcvaluableworks according to the conditions of thecontest.As a director of the project "MoIlaNasreddin - Azerbaijan" on my behalf andon the behalf of aIl participants andcartoonists I would like to thank theMinistry of Culture and Tourism of theAzerbaijan Republic, the Federation ofthe International CartoonistsOrganizations and Azerbaijan Artists'Union for their moral support.
