Yet amidst all the pessimismpresented to us in articles or pictures eachtime we pick up our paper or magazine,there is also a window bringing in light - acartoon presenting another viewpoint thatmakes us smile despite all that ishappening around us.From that white page flow emotionsthat conquer our hearts. Yes, indeed - justa few lines can say as much as adiscourse of pages. Cartoons accomplishthis through the universal language oflines. We do not need a guide, anintermediary, or an interpreter to be ableto understand those lines.Cartoons are like safety fuses for ouremotions. They shed light into our innerworlds whenever we give in to pessimism.We hesitate a moment, our emotionsswing between laughter or sadness,anger or joy. Yet, a smile is triumphant...The stronger this emotional outburst isthe more successful the cartoonist is...Cartoons meet this human need forcomic relief, and as such, the art ofcartoons is as old as the history ofmankind.The skills of cartoonists confrontoppression in many countries where thereare those who fear their subtle humor.When you read the biographies ofsome of the artists you will come acrossmany interesting stories.In their cartoons you will detect thetraces and experiences of what they havelived through.Aydýn Doðan International CartoonCompetition does not set a particulartopic. However, you shall note thatcartoans bring to life our common issuesand proposals for their solution.Aydýn Doðan International CartoonCompetition has celebrated its 25thanniversary. Each year the number ofentries increases, signifying the trust inthe respected competition.The competition also serves a veryimportant function.lt brings together artists with verydifferent beliefs and styles. lt presents toviewers this diversity side by side, andthus creates a platform for exchange ofculture and knowledge. To thýs day, 6.500artists from 136 countries have sent inaround 60.000 cartoons to compete in theAydýn Doðan International CartoonCompetition.Over the years cartoonists fromdozens of different countries have servedon the jury to evaluate the entries.I would like to extend my gratitude toINTERNATIONAL "HAIFA"CARTOON CONTEST ALBUME 2011XXVI.
