In 2009, Citizens’ had retailenergy sales totaling 160 GWh, down 4.8 percentfrom 2008. Residential sales accounted for 49.8percent of Citizens’ total sales, followed byindustrial (32.6 percent) and commercial (17.2percent). Average annual use per residentialcustomer was 14,062 kWh at an average cost of11.45 cents per kWh; operating revenues totaled $18.7 million.Between 1994 and 2009, Citizens’ experienced a sales growth that has averaged 0.3 percentannually, due in part to a 4.8 percent drop in 2009. Residential and commercial sales haveincreased at annual rates of 1.0 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively. Industrial sales decreased atan average annual rate of 1.2 percent. Over the next five years, Citizens’ expects total energydemand growth to average 0.7 percent, following a slight decrease in <strong>2010</strong>. Growth rates are thesame (0.7 percent) for all three sectors. See Figure 51.Citizens’ 2009-10 winter peak load, occurring on Jan. 11, <strong>2010</strong>, was 38.7 MW, a 4.6 percentdecrease from the winter peak of 2008. The 2009 summer peak load was 34.4 MW.
