In 2009,Penn Power had energy sales totaling 4,237GWh—a decrease of 9.8 percent from the 2008figure. Residential sales lead Penn Power’s marketwith 38.6 percent of the total sales, followed bycommercial (32.3 percent) and industrial (29.0 percent). Average annual use per residentialcustomer was 11,673 kWh at an average cost of 11.72 cents per kWh; operating revenues totaled$261.7 million.Between 1994 and 2009, Penn Power’s energy demand grew at an average rate of 1.5 percent peryear. Residential and commercial sales have maintained relatively steady growth over the periodat annual rates of 2.2 percent and 2.9 percent, respectively. Industrial sales have fluctuatedconsiderably, with an overall average annual decrease of 0.3 percent, due mainly to a 23.9 percentdrop in 2009 sales. The current five-year projection of growth in total energy demand is 2.9percent.
