400.1.43Adopted: 06/14/05ELIZABETH CITY STATE UNIVERSITYRepair of In-Warranty EquipmentManufacturer WarrantyMost equipment is warranted by the manufacturer for a period of time against faulty parts orworkmanship. Such equipment is generally supplied with a warranty card which is to be completedby the requisitioning department and returned to the manufacturer as soon as the equipment isreceived. Unless this warranty card is returned promptly, some manufacturers will not recognizetheir liability for the repair or replacement of the equipment.Warranty ServiceA request for in-warranty service for all types of equipment should be submitted to the PurchasingOffice on a purchase requisition.Warranty PeriodMost office machines and micro-computers carry a one year warranty. Some warranties are on siteand others are taken care of by being returned to the vendor. Computer equipment that is notpurchased on state contract usually has a 90 day warranty. Copiers also usually carry a 90 daywarranty.Routine MaintenanceIf routine maintenance (service needs that are not normally covered by warranty) will be requiredfor equipment while under warranty, the possibility of a service contract should be discussed withthe vendor's representative. A purchase requisition for this type of service should be submitted tothe Purchasing Department as soon as the equipment is installed.
