2011 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal Chief Conservator <strong>of</strong> Forest, Karnataka<br />

Forest Department addressed to <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal Secretary<br />

(Forest), Government <strong>of</strong> Karnataka regard<strong>in</strong>g action aga<strong>in</strong>st<br />

<strong>the</strong> forest <strong>of</strong>ficers for giv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> false NOCs as non forest<br />

land is enclosed at ANNEXURE-R-25 to this Report. A copy<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> letter dated 21.11.2007 <strong>of</strong> Dy. Conservator <strong>of</strong> Forest,<br />

Bellary, dealt with <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> above said letter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> PCCF,<br />

Karnataka Forest Department is enclosed at ANNEXURE-R-<br />

26 to this Report.<br />

16. Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> site visit, <strong>the</strong> Deputy Commissioner, Bellary<br />

provided copies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> satellite imageries <strong>in</strong> respect <strong>of</strong><br />

m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g lease areas <strong>of</strong> (a) Ram Rao M. Poal (b) Adarsha<br />

Enterprises, and (c) Sparkl<strong>in</strong>g M<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Corporation and which<br />

show <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> area before <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g was<br />

undertaken and <strong>the</strong>reafter. These satellite imageries,<br />

collectively enclosed at ANNEXURE-R-27 to this Report,<br />

vividly br<strong>in</strong>gs out <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong>se m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g lease areas were<br />

hav<strong>in</strong>g dense to moderately dense forest cover (<strong>in</strong> addition<br />

to be<strong>in</strong>g legally ‘forest’) and which has been ruthlessly<br />

destroyed after m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />

17. On a specific issue raised by <strong>the</strong> CEC about <strong>the</strong><br />

number <strong>of</strong> trees exist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> area and <strong>the</strong> authority who<br />

permitted <strong>the</strong> fell<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> trees, <strong>the</strong> details <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> forest cover<br />

and <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> trees <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> various m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g lease areas<br />
