This annual publication continues to improve each year. Inaddition to the historical timeline, important numbers, elected official directory, and ofcourse, member business directory, the 2011 edition includes a Dining Out guide as wellas a <strong>Community</strong> of Faith directory. The convent wouldbecome the Motherhouse forthe order.1878 – Woodlawn Seminary,located across from the entranceto Ft. Zumwalt Park,opens to provide a classicaleducation for young ladies.1897 – Westhoff Grainand Mercantile incorporates.The store isnow McGurk’s PublicInn on Main Street.18001798 – Jacob Zumwalt and hisfamily arrive here from Kentucky.1824 – Colonel JamesAudrain, owner of Bull’sHell Mill near Dames Park,is elected to the MissouriLegislature.1859 – A slave, “McIntosh byname,” opens the first blacksmithshop on Main Streetnear Church Street.1869 – Both Assumption Parishand the O’Fallon public schoolsystem were organized.1884 – Darius Heald builds“Stony Point,” a two-storybrick home next to the oldZumwalt homestead fort inwhich he lived all his life.1858 – The first train passesthrough O’Fallon on the newrailroad line.
