Nova ScotiaHIGHLIGHTS OF ACHIEVEMENTSIN MINORITY-LANGUAGE EDUCATIONNova Scotia’s achievements in minority-language education, between2005–06 and 2008–09, included the following outcomes supportedby federal–provincial funding arrangements:• The Conseil scolaire acadien provincial [provincial Acadian schoolboard] (CSAP) was able to expand its staff for literacy andnumeracy mentoring, which had a positive impact on studentperformance levels.• Some CSAP schools added new classes — École de la Rive-Sud,for example, added a new Grade 12 cohort — and many addednew courses, accounting for an increase in the number of electivecourses available in French-first-language schools.• The Department of Education granted bursaries to teachers toattend methodology upgrading courses or courses leading toa master’s degree in education (French language) or in schooladministration. Between 2005–06 and 2008–09, there was anincrease of 34 per cent in the number of bursary applications formaster’s degree courses in these areas.
