Don’t Risk a slip - new
TAKmats keep floors
clean and dry
Fosse Liquitrol is now offering a revolutionary
spill control solution, designed to keep workplace
floors clean and dry. The “TAKmat” is a
very effective and affordable method of keeping
walkways, entrances and work areas clean
and dry. Highly absorbent material coated in
non-transferable resin instantly removes and
retains oil, grease, dirt and moisture from
dirty feet, preventing it being walked into
clean areas.
The TAKmat is made of thirty-six layers of
absorbent material, so when the top layer is
saturated, you simply peel it off to reveal a
new, sparklingly clean layer underneath! As
there are thirty-six layers, the mat remains consistently
clean for longer. And because the individual
layers are so light and flexible, they can
be easily and safely disposed of - eliminating
the need for costly external collection and
removal schemes.
Available in three sizes for walkways and
entrances, free-standing TAKmats promote best
practice in keeping floor areas clean and slipfree.
They are perfect for use in factories, paint
spray booths, laboratories, offices, electronics
or automotive industries and construction sites.
Worldwide sales since 2000 of the Heartstart
First Aid Defibrillator have exceeded 200,000
and in celebration of this achievement Laerdal
Medical has donated a defibrillator to four different
organisations across the UK. The FR2
Heartstart First Aid Defibrillator has been
donated to Essex Fire and Rescue for use by
their International Search and Rescue Division
and Selly Oak Hospital for use with their West
Midlands Care Team and the FRX Heartstart
First Aid Defibrillator has been donated to
Southport Lifeboat an independent lifeboat
station that amongst other operations was
involved in the rescue of the cockle pickers
from Morecombe Bay and the RNLI station at
Tower Pier, London.
“The more defibrillators available the more
lives will be saved,” explained Tony Kemp,
Product Specialist with Laerdal Medical “and to
know that more than 100,000 Heartstart First
Aid Defibrillators are available around the world
now is great news. We decided that this milestone
should be marked by us donating our leading
models to organisations that we felt justly
deserved it, who are widely respected by all and
who, with the donation of a defibrillator, would
only increase the number of lives they already
save every year.”
ESS Toolkit makes
work a safer place
In line with the current Health and Safety
Executive (HSE) Workplace Health and Safety
Survey (WHASS) Programme, ESS - UK, the
total support services division of Compass
Group, is supplying its operating sites with an
‘ESSential Safety Toolkit’, designed to
educate and inform personnel at all
levels in health and safety best practice.
In the UK alone, over 600 people die
each year as a result of work activities
and several hundreds of thousands
more suffer illness and
injury all of which equated to
some nine million lost
working days in
2003/4. The HSE
states that
‘almost all
these incidents
are preventable’
and
over the next
two years is
targeting the
workplace with
its series of
W H A S S
Programme
surveys to gain
information to help design and deliver programmes
to reduce injuries, ill-health and
lost time incidents.
Likewise, ESS - UK’s Toolkit aims to create a safe
work culture at its sites where all personnel are
acutely aware of the possible health and safety
hazards and risks in their environment and work
together to manage them. Each employee is
encouraged to take responsibility for eliminating
hazardous activities and removing unsafe
conditions thus preventing injury or illness.
The Toolkit contains a wide variety of support
materials to ensure that every member of staff,
ply loses its rhythm and goes into ventricular
fibrillation (VF). In this condition, a defibrillator
can safely shock the heart back into a regular
beating pattern. If administered within 2-3 minutes
of collapse, the chances of the victim’s survival
are increased by up to 50%. The defibrillator
must be used within the first 4 - 5
minutes- the sooner the better as the rate of
successful recovery decreases by an alarming
10% per minute. In the absence of a defibrillator,
CPR alone is not enough. Without early
defibrillation, the patient will almost certainly
die. Although Laerdal’s HeartStart First Aid
Defibrillator is a technically
advanced piece
whether office based or elsewhere on site, can
have access to relevant information and health
and safety procedures. Safety awareness
posters, risk assessment and job analysis forms,
hazard spotting stickers, observation cards and
suggestion forms all help to keep issues of
health and safety front of mind at all times.
Rowena Edwards, MD of ESS - UK
commented: “In addition
to giving staff the
tools to reduce and
eliminate risk on
site, the Toolkit also
encourages staff to
take a positive role in
health and safety and
proactively review work
procedures, whether new
or existing, to ensure the
continued safety of
themselves and
their team
members
alike.
“ T h e
ESSential
S a f e t y
Toolkit is part
of ESS - UK’s
long-term
approach to
employee and
client health and
safety. The company
aims to ensure systems
are in place to maintain
improved employee
awareness of health and safety, improved operational
health and safety reporting and
improved management reporting with the ultimate
goal of reducing to an absolute minimum
the number of incidents on site.”
Laerdal donates Heartstart First Aid defibrillators
to celebrate worldwide sales of 200,000+
of equipment, it is small, very robust and surprisingly
easy to use. Automated voice commands
and comprehensive diagrams take the
operator through each step of the way.
Independent scientific user trials show that the
Laerdal HeartStart First Aid
Defibrillator is the
most simple to
operate AED
(automatic
external defibrillator)
on the
market.
