Welsh Assembly gives
A04 its voice of confidence
The Welsh Assembly Government has
given Asher’s new design-led A04 range
its vote of confidence in selecting it for
the new premises of Cadw - pronounced
cad-oo - the historic environment agency
within the National Assembly.
The Assembly’s brief to Asher was to provide
the new two-storey facility with contemporary,
stylish furniture that would
reflect both the prestige and function of
the Wigley Fox Partnership designed building.
A priority was to retain a common
style throughout the building, so it was
considered essential to opt for a system
that would be equally suitable for cellular,
executive offices and team working areas.
Asher supplied 117 1800mm by 1800mm
A04 radial workstations that accommodate
flat-screen monitors to make the most space
efficient use of the desktop footprint; seven
management offices have bow-fronted A04
workstations, while the three senior executive
suites have A04 Ethic desking. To retain a common
aesthetic platform throughout the building,
the A04 desktop finish at Cadw is cherry MFC,
with natural cherry veneer for the management
and executive workstations and meeting tables.
The legs and support framework, drawer units
and low-level screen framework are all painted
platinum.
The contract is the second major Asher installation
for the Welsh Assembly. Asher was also used
to furnish the Assembly’s headquarters at
Cardiff Bay; the Assembly’s debating chamber;

the ease with which it can be adapted to meet
each customer’s precise demands. Such is the
system’s versatility that it successfully can fulfil
the need for linear desking, cluster workstations

The chair comes with a black
plastic seat and back, with a complimentary
grey textured frame
that makes it look very futuristic.
The chair is extremely easy to
clean with wipe down plastic and
metal surfaces. Optional extras can
also be specified and include
upholstered seat and back pads and
a linking device.
It can be folded flat and stored
upright in the minimum amount of
space. For those that require a

there is also an efficient storage
trolley available designed specifically
for the Magnus and can safely
accommodate up to 48 chairs.

Cadw - which is a Welsh word meaning
“to keep” is responsible for protecting,
conserving and promoting the principality’s
rich and diverse historic environment.
The task, which is undertaken by a
dedicated team of conservation specialists,
architects, archaeologists, engineers
and administrators, necessitates the careful
archiving of a vast quantity of documentation
relating to 250,000 years of Welsh history.
So, while stimulating and full of interest, the
work requires painstaking attention to detail,
calling for an ultra-efficient working environment
that allows concentrated individual effort,
easy communication and provides for effective
team working.
A04 is the latest design-led solution from Asher,
one of a number of prominent brands in the UK
office furniture market that are manufactured
by Haverhill-based Workspace Office Solutions
Limited, the others being Project, Elect and
Solutions@Work.
