Welsh Assembly gives
A04 its voice of confidence
The Welsh Assembly Government has
given Asher’s new design-led A04 range
its vote of confidence in selecting it for
the new premises of Cadw - pronounced
cad-oo - the historic environment agency
within the National Assembly.
The Assembly’s brief to Asher was to provide
the new two-storey facility with contemporary,
stylish furniture that would
reflect both the prestige and function of
the Wigley Fox Partnership designed building.
A priority was to retain a common
style throughout the building, so it was
considered essential to opt for a system
that would be equally suitable for cellular,
executive offices and team working areas.
Asher supplied 117 1800mm by 1800mm
A04 radial workstations that accommodate
flat-screen monitors to make the most space
efficient use of the desktop footprint; seven
management offices have bow-fronted A04
workstations, while the three senior executive
suites have A04 Ethic desking. To retain a common
aesthetic platform throughout the building,
the A04 desktop finish at Cadw is cherry MFC,
with natural cherry veneer for the management
and executive workstations and meeting tables.
The legs and support framework, drawer units
and low-level screen framework are all painted
platinum.
The contract is the second major Asher installation
for the Welsh Assembly. Asher was also used
to furnish the Assembly’s headquarters at
Cardiff Bay; the Assembly’s debating chamber;
the headquarters building that, like the Cadw
installation, was project managed by Richard
Powell and Partners, the Asher business partner
in Wales.
Wire shelving from
Bedfords will enhance
any office environment
As part of their on-going product
development policy Bedfords
have now introduced Livewire.
Livewire is a shelving system
based on the ‘wiggly wire’ principal
and is ideal for numerous display
and storage applications
throughout the office environment.
The open structure gives
good visibility and easy access
and the contemporary styling will
look attractive in any location.
Designed for maximum flexibility,
Livewire is based on a
25mm post in a variety of
lengths and seven different
shelf sizes that cover most
anticipated requirements.
Livewire is available in a
quality chrome finish or with
a thick, clear epoxy seal,
allowing shelves to be
washed - the smooth epoxy
coating is also kind to delicate
stock. Livewire utilises
the same shelf support
design as Bedfords recently
upgraded Quartermaster system,
so that solid and stainless
steel shelf options are
also available. With just the
addition of wheels Livewire
and individual desking. Described as
being one system that offers an infinite
number of solutions, A04 is seen as a
“European” office furniture solution
based on an ingenious and sustainable
engineering concept. This enables the
furniture to be remodelled time and
again without the need for the Assembly
to invest in new components, so reducing
the cost of ownership over the lifetime
of the installation.
Cadw - which is a Welsh word meaning
“to keep” is responsible for protecting,
conserving and promoting the principality’s
rich and diverse historic environment.
The task, which is undertaken by a
dedicated team of conservation specialists,
architects, archaeologists, engineers
and administrators, necessitates the careful
archiving of a vast quantity of documentation
relating to 250,000 years of Welsh history.
So, while stimulating and full of interest, the
work requires painstaking attention to detail,
calling for an ultra-efficient working environment
that allows concentrated individual effort,
easy communication and provides for effective
team working.
A04 is the latest design-led solution from Asher,
one of a number of prominent brands in the UK
office furniture market that are manufactured
by Haverhill-based Workspace Office Solutions
Limited, the others being Project, Elect and
Solutions@Work.
can be used to construct versatile
mobile units.
Managing Director, David
Duckworth comments: ‘the ‘wiggly
wire’ style has become a design
icon but not widely available in the
past through cost. We can now
offer that same innovative styling
as a quality product, at a realistic
cost, into the office premises market
in general.’
