Tourist attractions<br />

Warsaw is one of <strong>the</strong> most significant cultural and tourist centers in <strong>Poland</strong>. Numerous<br />

historical buildings and remainders of its glorious p<strong>as</strong>t toge<strong>the</strong>r with an extensive repertoire<br />

of cultural institutions will satisfy even <strong>the</strong> most exacting visitors.<br />

The Historic Center of Warsaw (<strong>the</strong> Old Town) dates back to <strong>the</strong> 13th century. It w<strong>as</strong> almost<br />

completely destroyed during World War II, but h<strong>as</strong> since been fully reconstructed, preserving<br />

its medieval structure. In 1980, it w<strong>as</strong> honored by UNESCO and registered on <strong>the</strong> organization’s<br />

World Heritage List. The Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, which connects <strong>the</strong> Old and New<br />

Town is <strong>the</strong> most elegant street in Warsaw, lined with 17th and 18th century palaces and grand<br />

residencies of <strong>the</strong> aristocracy, surrounded by gardens and churches. The city’s o<strong>the</strong>r historical<br />

attractions include <strong>the</strong> palace and park complexes of Polish kings: Royal Łazienki and Wilanów,<br />

and admirers of cl<strong>as</strong>sical music will probably be interested in visiting <strong>the</strong> many places in and<br />

around Warsaw connected with <strong>the</strong> life and work of Frederic Chopin.<br />
