General in<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

Szczecin is <strong>the</strong> capital of <strong>the</strong> Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship (Western Pomerania Province),<br />

located in <strong>the</strong> north-west corner of <strong>Poland</strong>. It is <strong>the</strong> country’s 7th largest city and one of <strong>the</strong><br />

largest seaports on <strong>the</strong> Baltic Sea. Due to its geographical location Szczecin h<strong>as</strong> become an<br />

important center of political, economic and cultural cooperation between <strong>Poland</strong>, Germany and<br />

Scandinavian countries.<br />

One of <strong>the</strong> main benefits of Szczecin’s location is <strong>the</strong> proximity of <strong>the</strong> German boarder<br />

(about 12 km). The distance to Berlin is 140 km and <strong>the</strong> trip takes less than 2 hours by train or<br />

car (thanks to <strong>the</strong> motorway, which connects <strong>the</strong> two cities). The city is trying to take advantage<br />

of this close proximity by developing strong economic cooperation with <strong>the</strong> German capital and<br />

neighboring regions.<br />

The city is currently aiming to become a modern European business center by developing <strong>the</strong><br />

BPO and high-tech sectors. For this re<strong>as</strong>on <strong>the</strong> City of Szczecin offers various types of public<br />

<strong>as</strong>sistance to create attractive conditions <strong>for</strong> investors and <strong>as</strong>sist <strong>the</strong> development of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

operations.<br />
