Roche h<strong>as</strong> been present in <strong>Poland</strong> since <strong>the</strong> beginning of <strong>the</strong> 20th century. The first business<br />
establishment w<strong>as</strong> opened in Warsaw in 1923. A few years later, in 1932, <strong>the</strong> company built<br />
a medicine factory in Warsaw, but it w<strong>as</strong> nationalized after World War II. Roche returned to<br />
<strong>Poland</strong> in 1986 by opening a branch office and in 1992 <strong>the</strong> company Roche Polska Sp. z o.o. w<strong>as</strong><br />
founded. Similarly to Roche operations world-wide, in <strong>Poland</strong> <strong>the</strong> company is divided into two<br />
parts: Diagnostics and Pharmaceuticals.<br />
Warsaw <strong>Shared</strong> <strong>Services</strong> Center<br />
The Warsaw <strong>Shared</strong> <strong>Services</strong> Center is an R&D center specializing in <strong>the</strong> creation<br />
of applications and software <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> company world-wide. The center employs 300 specialists<br />
responsible <strong>for</strong> application and software development and testing, <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> IT system<br />
management and maintenance. The solutions developed by <strong>the</strong> center are exported to Roche<br />
units around <strong>the</strong> world and used mainly in clinical research and development of next-generation<br />
medicines.<br />
