While China can impact its productive capabilitiesdirectly through government policy and firm investment, market conditions and valuechain relations are not so amenable. China’s latecomer status puts it at a disadvantage in formingits own international value chains. However, its fast-growing domestic market affords Chinaa unique opportunity to cultivate its own value chain and competitiveness based on familiaritywith consumer preferences and <strong>de</strong>mands at home.1. Mientras que China pue<strong>de</strong> afectar suscapacida<strong>de</strong>s productivas directamente a través <strong>de</strong> la política gubernamental y <strong>de</strong> la inversión empresarial, las condiciones<strong>de</strong>l mercado y las relaciones <strong>de</strong> la ca<strong>de</strong>na <strong>de</strong> valor no son tan flexibles. El hecho <strong>de</strong> que China sea la “nueva incorporación”la sitúa en <strong>de</strong>sventaja en cuanto a la formación <strong>de</strong> sus propias ca<strong>de</strong>nas <strong>de</strong> valor internacionales. Sin embargo,su mercado interior <strong>de</strong> rápido crecimiento brinda a China una oportunidad única para cultivar su propia ca<strong>de</strong>na <strong>de</strong>valor y competitividad en base al conocimiento <strong>de</strong> las preferencias y <strong>de</strong> las <strong>de</strong>mandas <strong>de</strong> los consumidores en el país.Este estudo analisa os esforços da China para subir na ca<strong>de</strong>ia <strong>de</strong> valor, com uma nova base teórica que assenta emfactores do lado do fornecimento e também da procura. Embora a China possa causar impacto directamente nas suascapacida<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong> produção, através <strong>de</strong> políticas governamentais e do investimento das empresas, as condições <strong>de</strong> mercadoe as relações da ca<strong>de</strong>ia <strong>de</strong> valor não são as mais a<strong>de</strong>quadas. O estatuto <strong>de</strong> último a chegar da China coloca-a em <strong>de</strong>svantagempara formar as suas próprias ca<strong>de</strong>ias <strong>de</strong> valor internacionais.
