Zhu Hongbo5. Conclusions135China and Latin America have had a long history of trade relations since the Silk Road acrossthe Pacific Ocean was explored in the 16 th century. In the 21 st century, the trade betweenthem grew quickly and China became the second trade partner of Latin America. In 2008, thefinancial crisis slowed the trade growth, but continued growth makes bilateral trade more importantfor both sides. Some challenges were faced, including the imbalance of trade, tradestructure, and investment. Trade is the cornerstone for deeper cooperation and great potentialis foreseeable in the future. Promoting high-tech and manufactured goods exports and abetter investment environment is necessary for both sides in order to build better and closereconomic relations. A cooperation forum and Summit conference would be good platformsfor future deeper cooperation, although they need hard effort and more time.GCG GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY - UNIVERSIA ENERO-ABRIL 2012 VOL. 6 NUM. 1 ISSN: 1988-7116pp: 115-135
