The mission of Assumption High School focuses on educating the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. We are proud to offer a variety ofsummer learning opportunities that help future Rockets grow in the same way. We invite you to take the time to review the summer campenrichment opportunities outlined in this brochure and come to Assumption for a week or two to get a taste of what it’s like to be a Rocket.Assumption girls love to be intellectually challenged and learn new skills like photography or art. Learn thebasics of ceramics, includingpress molding and wheelthrowing. You will createfunctional bowls andplates and make a cupon the pottery wheel.You will also explore the wider world of sculpture andcreate an abstract sculptural piece. All work producedwill be yours to take home!Are you interested in photography? Do youown a digital camera and want to learn moreabout how to use it to create fabulousphotos? If so, then this class is for you!You will learn the basics of a digital camera,composition, and light. You will also learnsimple editing techniques and generate ideasabout how to use photos in a creative way.You will need your own digital camera alongwith its USB cord and a portable thumbdrive. DramaFor boys and girls entering grades 5-9June 10-1312:30 – 3:30 p.m.This fun and fast paced camp introduces youngactors to the wide open world of drama. Instructorswill lead students in warm - ups, creative dramaactivities, and basic acting exercises that will helpstudents to feel confidentusing their voices,bodies, and imaginationsas instruments forcreative expression.This camp will end witha culminating showcase.Musical TheatreFor boys and girls entering grades 8-11June 10-138:30 - 11:30 a.m.This summer camp offers young singers and actors thechance to polish their musical theatre skills. Studentswill learn the ins and outs of choosing the right music,auditioning skills, beginning vocal technique, exploringchoreography, and “selling” the song.DIY CraftsFor girls entering grades 6-8June 10-138:30 - 11:30 a.m.We will investigate the science involved in some of yourfavorite crafts and hobbies. We will also explore skillsthat support a “green” approach to living: basic gardening,simple sewing, and homemade beauty products. Campersmay not wear flip flops.

Come see why we are such an amazingprogram. Head Coach Debbie Judd will teach fundamental skills, positionalplay, rules, and the basic strategies of field hockey. Campers will be groupedaccording to age and experience to maximize their individual learning experience.Attention will also be directed to teamwork, leadership, and having FUN! Eachday campers will participate in small games.CROSS CountryE.P. Tom Sawyer (picnic area)For girls entering grades 6-9July 10-135:30 - 7:30 p.m.Assumption Cross Country has a tradition ofexcellence, including five StateChampionships and a nationalranking! Come work with HeadCoach Barry Haworth. The Campdoes involve daily runs and is agreat way to start preparing foran upcoming Cross Country season.Coach Haworth also teachesgirls a series of effectiveinjury prevention and stretchingtechniques, but most importantlyhow to make running FUN!Session IIFor girls ages 11-15July 19-2012:30 - 3:30 p.m.DANCEThe Assumption GymSession IFor girls ages 5-10July 19-208:30 - 11:30 a.m.This camp is sponsored by the Assumption HighSchool dance team. Campers will be taughtthe skills and techniques of dance. Camperswill be grouped according to age and danceability to maximize their camp experience.No dance experience is necessary.

LACROSSEThe Assumption GreenSession IFor girls entering grades 5-9June 19-228:30 - 10:30 a.m.Assumption’s lacrosse camp is designed toteach and develop the fundamental skills ofthe game: throwing, catching, cradling, shooting,feeding, ground balls, and offensive and defensiveskills while focusing on improving participants’level of confidence. Our camp offers playersthe opportunity to improve their stick skills andconceptual understanding of the game of lacrossethrough challenging drills, skill building activities, andfull-field scrimmages. The camp staff includesthe AHS coaching staff, along with varsity andrising JV players.soccerThe Assumption GreenFor girls entering grades 5-9June 10-136:00 - 8:30 p.m.The camp will offer instruction in the basicintermediate skills of soccer. Campers willlearn drills, techniques, and game strategies.In addition, campers will become knowledgeableof game rules and teamwork. Coaches KenyonMeyer and Ollie Barber will lead this funand innovative camp.For girls ages 9-14June 20-235:00 - 7:00 p.m.softballThe Assumption GreenHead Coaches Jennifer Hunt, Laura Rather, and Shanon Searle willteach the basics in fielding, base running, throwing, hitting, bunting, andslap hitting. Athletes will also work on the mental aspects of game:preparation, teamwork, and the importance of academic performance.Track and fieldThe Assumption GreenFor girls entering grades 5-9June 10-138:30 - 11:30 a.m.The Assumption Track andField Camp is led by HeadTrack coach Barry Haworth andassistant coach Barry Kornsteinand emphasizes both sprintingand jumping events like longjump and high jump. AssumptionTrack and Field has severalstate champions in theseevents and a history of strongperformance.
