She has almost ten years ofexperience in <strong>the</strong> die <strong>casting</strong> industry. In 2001 she joined <strong>the</strong> CSIRO as a Research Scientist in <strong>the</strong><strong>casting</strong> division. She has done extensive research in <strong>casting</strong> in Australia and overseas. Dr Iyer joinedRMIT in 2006 where she was developing, directing and administering <strong>the</strong> Piping Design and mid-levelRefrigeration and Air conditioning programs.Dr Iyer’s expertise is Material Science and Engineering, which lead to her teaching students at <strong>the</strong>Associate Degree level. Her approach to education is to create integrated and holistic models of learningthat simulate industry practice. She also uses e-learning paradigms and information to address <strong>the</strong>learning styles of different individuals.At <strong>the</strong> beginning of <strong>the</strong> Fellowship Dr Iyer started teaching online Advance Diploma students. Currently,she is <strong>the</strong> Senior Educator for <strong>the</strong> Associate Degree in Engineering at <strong>the</strong> School of Engineering,RMIT University (TAFE). In her free time Dr Iyer likes to spend her time with her two daughters and herhusband. She also enjoys reading, gardening and watching Bollywood movies.45
