NEW US JETTER TRAILER 4025
This is one of the latest US Jetter trailers we
bought into the country. It features 4000psi
with 100LPM, dual 1200L water tanks, swivel
hose reel, wireless remote control, storage
boxes, nozzles, etc. When you’re ready to
own the most popular drain cleaner in the
world, call us for a quote and brochure or go
to the US jetting web site www.usjetting.com
NEW NOZZLE ‘THE GREASE BALL’
This is the latest nozzle design from Mustang
Nozzles. The Grease Ball is round in shape
and features 8 rear jets set at 20 degrees.
This gives you maximum thrust
with more jets to clean
the surface of the pipe
with. The round ball
head helps prevent the
nozzle becoming jammed
in disjointed pipes. Don’t just
use it on grease lines, it’s great
GB8
for punching through a standard root blockage!
Rusty Mufflers - Fire Hazard on
20HP Honda Powered Jetters
When older jetters come to us for
service we always examine the mufflers
for rust holes. The most common place
for the muffler to rust is on the left side
facing the fuel tank. You can see signs
of melting plastic on the corner of the
fuel tank where it faces the muffler. If
the muffler is not replaced the plastic
tank will melt through and the fuel will
leak out and burn down your jetter. We
have found that plumbers who live with
10km of the beach experience this more
often. If you have a plastic fuel tank
mounted near your muffler, examine it
today.
Talking about hot mufflers, I had a
plumber who loaded a large Ridgid See
Snake camera on the back of the ute
right next to the muffler outlet. His next
job was a blocked drain. By the time he
had finished the drain, the hot exhaust
had melted the camera to the tray of the
ute leaving just the steel frame and a
few wires! Our insurance, possibly like
yours, only covered ‘fire and theft’ not
melting plastic from a heat source. The
insurance company said that because
the camera did not catch on fire, they
would not pay the claim. Bugger!
HINTS AND TIPS!
Worn Unloader Valves
We have been selling a lot of unloader valves
recently. The primary role of the unloader valve is
to divert the water back to the header tank when
a set working pressure has been achieved or the
supply of water to the nozzle has been cut off via
a hand lance or remote mini reel. The water is
recirculated from the pump through the header
tank until the water supply has been opened
again. If you live in an area where the water is
hard, the minerals in the water will wear the valve
seats quickly and the valve will need replacing as
soon as every 6 months depending on use. The
average life span of an unloader valve is 18
months.
New Locking Quick Release Couplers
We have modified our patented ‘silt proof o’ring’ quick
release couplers so they will lock when pressure is
applied making them the strongest on the market. We
have seen many poor quality couplers come onto the
market that either fail and release the nozzle or they rip
apart creating an OH&S hazard. Our couplers are
pressure tested and certified to a working pressure
exceeding 10,000psi. A tip for novice jetter operators;
when you put your hose in the drain, never push it in the
drain where the sheath on the coupler can get caught
against a hard edge causing it to pull back before you
turn the water jetter on!
Blocked nozzles
Nozzles block for several reasons. If you drop your jet hose on
the ground when you change nozzles or roll up your hose
leaving it to drag along the ground you can pick up debris in
the end of the hose that will lodge in the nozzle jets. Another
common but generally unknown cause is rust and corrosion
deposits on any metal surface between the pump and the end
of the hose coming loose and lodging in a jet orifice. Unless
the fittings are made from stainless steel or high pressure
brass you will not prevent this from happening. The swage
tails fitted to either end of your jet hose should be changed
every year and the steel pressure fittings should be
unscrewed and examined and replaced as required every 2
years.
We had one customer who was wearing out his Root Ranger
turbine every few months. We could not work out what was
causing the problem until he noticed the rust in the end of his
hose swage tails. He changed the swage tails on both ends of
his hose and has not had a problem since. We now carry
swage tails with an extra coating of zinc to reduce the harsh
effects of the water wearing down the metal surface.
