<strong>Certification</strong> ProgramsIntroductionEach year the <strong>University</strong> updates this list <strong>of</strong> successful graduates fromits <strong>Certification</strong> programs.The purpose <strong>of</strong> this list is to:♦ Identify those therapists who passed a clinical certification andhave remained current in continuing pr<strong>of</strong>essional education♦ Assist with referrals within the physical therapy and medicalpr<strong>of</strong>essions♦ Assist with the <strong>for</strong>mation <strong>of</strong> study groups and networks♦ Recognize those who have reached standards <strong>of</strong> competencythrough our programsWe have long held that continuing education should be structuredtoward a meaningful goal. Thus, in 1981, when a group <strong>of</strong> therapistswho had completed the <strong>University</strong>’s (then the Institute <strong>of</strong> PhysicalTherapy’s) manual therapy seminars asked to be examined, thefaculty agreed and <strong>Certification</strong> began.<strong>Certification</strong> is designed to <strong>of</strong>fer a series <strong>of</strong> seminars, whichculminate in a comprehensive examination consisting <strong>of</strong> written, oraland practical testing to define competency in a chosen field.<strong>Certification</strong> is an integral part <strong>of</strong> the process <strong>for</strong> acquiring either thePost-Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Science (MHSc) or thetransitional Doctor <strong>of</strong> Physical Therapy (DPT).<strong>Certification</strong> requires completion <strong>of</strong> the required seminars either as astructured continuing education process or as part <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> our postpr<strong>of</strong>essionaldegree programs.
