Removing a file from source controlTo remove a file from being managed by the source control system, do the following:•In the Project Explorer, right click the file to remove from source control.•From the menu, click Source Control then Remove From Source Control.Note that this deletes the file from the source code control system but does not touchthe working file on disk and does not remove the file from the project.Source control propertiesWhen a file is controlled, the Properties window shows the following properties in theSource Control Options group:•Checked Out. If Yes, the file is checked out by you to the project location; if No, thefile is not checked out.•Different. If Yes, the checked out file differs from the one held in the source controlsystem; if No, they are identical.•File Path. The file path of the file in the source control system.•Old Version. If Yes, the file in the project location is an old version compared to thelatest version in the source control system.•Status. Controlled indicates that the file is controlled by the source code controlsystem.Source control statusBy selecting Project > Source Control > Show Status a window is displayed thatshows the current source control state of each file in the project. If a local file has beenchanged then this file is displayed in red. You can use this window to do multiplesource control operations e.g. add several files to the source control. You can restrict thefile list to a node in the project hierarchy e.g. all files of a folder, and supply a filterwhich enables the file list to be restricted to the source control status e.g. all files thatare different.When a given file or solution is selected in the project explorer, the source controlproperties appear in the properties window—these properties reflect the localcheckout status of the file and whether or not it has been modified.64 Chapter 6 Source code control
