39GlossaryThe following terms are in common use and are used throughout the <strong>CrossWorks</strong>documentation:•Active project. The project that is currently selected in the Project Explorer. TheBuild tool bar contains a dropdown and the Project > Set Active Project menucontains an item that display the active project. You can change the active projectusing either of these elements.•Active configuration. The configuration that is currently selected <strong>for</strong> building.The Build too bar contains a dropdown and the Build > Set Active BuildConfiguration menu display the active configuration. You can change the activeconfiguration using either of these elements.•Assembler. A program that translates low-level assembly language statementsinto executable machine code. See Assembler Reference.•Compiler. A program that translates high-level statement into executablemachine code. See C Compiler Reference.•Integrated development environment. A program that supports editing,managing, building, and debugging your programs within a single environment.•Linker. A program that combines multiple relocatable object modules andresolves inter-module references to produce an executable program. See LinkerReference.•Project explorer. A docking indow that contains a visual representation of theproject. See Project explorer (page 128).
