Fundraising update: The Veterinary Medical Learning CenterMany of you, as alumni and friends of the CVM, have joinedour faculty, staff and students to work diligently to raise funds andawareness about our need for the Veterinary Medical LearningCenter, a state-of-the-art facility that will provide a larger hospitalfor our patients and clients, as well as larger and improved classroomspace for our future students.FY11 was an exciting and productive year for all of us who havestewarded this project. At the close of FY11, we had raised $8.8 milliontoward our goal of $15 million in private funding for the VMLC. Ourhospital administration, faculty and staff are working closely with thedesign firm hired by the University Board of Regents, Perkins & Will,to complete the architectural drawings for this project. The $80 million project will provide a facility with 211,000net square feet. The Board of Regents included the project in itsrecommended FY13 budget for capital construction. We are hopefulthat Governor Deal will present this construction plan to the GeorgiaGeneral Assembly during its 2012 session. If approved by theGovernor and General Assembly, we should start construction in thefall of 2012.Thanks so much to all of you who have helped us get this far towardachieving our goal. Your generosity will impact potentially hundredsof thousands of patients, and thousands of future veterinarians. This is a project that needs support from everyone. If you havenot yet given to our VMLC campaign, please consider making acontribution. No contribution is too small, and every dollar puts uscloser to making this proposed facility a reality. If you would like to stay informed of our progress, read moreabout our need for this facility, or to donate to the cause, please visitthe VMLC website (vet.uga.edu/vmlc).
