InLoving Memory:Dentists in the Northwest Honor One of Their OwnOn March 16, 2007, dental colleagues honored thememory of Dr. Donald D. Cope during a dedicationceremony in Shreveport. A granite plaque was placed atthe front of the Donald J. Zadeck, Jr. & Percy A. Sharp IIIMemorial Gardens of the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center inhonor of Dr. Cope.Dr. Cope passed away from prostate cancer in 2006.After his passing, Dr. Cope’s colleague and friend, Dr. L.M.Harrison, Jr., asked fellow dentists from the Northwestcomponent to contribute a donation and the responsewas overwhelming. These dentists donated well over$5,000 to the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, which is thecancer department and research center at the LSU Healthand Sciences Center in Shreveport.Dr. Harrison expressed that Dr. Cope was a great dentist,a great individual, and always had a smile on his face. Hesaid the plaque was “a permanent memorial that peoplewould see forever.”During the dedication ceremony, the director of theFeist-Weiller Cancer Center, Jonathan Glass, M.D., gave awelcome speech to the guests. Dr. Cope’s colleagues Dr.Harrison, Dr. H.O. Blackwood III, and Dr. W. MontieDalton then spoke about their dear friend. The ceremonyended with a dedication prayer given by Dr. Dalton andan optional tour of the center.Dr. Cope will be missed but his memory will alwaysremain due to the generosity of his colleagues in theNorthwest component. t28 LDA Journal
